you seem to have been on the verge of quitting for a while now
  • I've been working here for two weeks so a while now is essentially the entire time
  • regardless, this means that I definitely will need to quit at some point, because I'm not going to wait 6 months to see sredni
  • it turns out that we get... no sick days

    further strongly reconsidering employment here

and no vacation time for your first six months

    yyyyyeeeaaahhhhh

Is there any entry level job where these things AREN'T the case?

  • Yeah that's all three jobs I've had sans Wegman's (they gave you a whopping two sick days per year), and literally every one I've ever applied for (which is a lot).

Like I'm not exaggerating, I can't think of a single one where I wasn't expected to:

    • never call off sick
    • have open availability (that is: be able to work at any time of day, on any day of the week. You Jewish and can't work on Saturdays? Too bad.)
    • never take a vacation within the first six months to two years of employment

  • I'm pretty sure It just mean that I should have a few sick days every year that's all
  • like, 5?

that don't even have to be paid

something weird i learned a few minutes ago is that the guy who got hard-boiled detective fiction going, dashiell hammett (he wrote the maltese falcon and stuff), had in fact been a detective, in that he worked for the Pinkertons. Also a communist. good job duder
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    Hammett was an interesting man.
  • My mother is not a fan of his works.

I know this because my brother's name is Dashiel, and apparently she insisted on spelling it with only one L because of this.
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
He left the Pinkertons specifically because he disagreed with their strike busting.
  • The Pinkertons always make me think of two things: Booker DeWitt and Weezer's second album.

Shows how much I know, but eh.
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
Hammett had actual experience as a professional detective before writing any detective fiction. I wonder how many other mystery writers can say the same.
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022

    Dear individuals,

Due to an oversight on the part of our maintenance department, the UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES switch was set to ON in recent millennia.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and will correct this error.

My enjoyment of a movie is more based in who I see it with and when than the movie itself. If one of my siblings or cousins likes a movie, I'm more likely to like it.

When I saw Frozen in theaters with my cousins Joe and Ted, before Joe went to Germany for two years, it was basically the best movie I had ever seen.

But seeing it on a crowded plane with crying babies everywhere, it was dull and unenjoyable.

You guys are like that to me, sometimes. Your fun (They Breathe, Crusader Kings, Homestuck) becomes my fun. I really enjoy all of you guys here, and I want you to know that.
