One of the Aliens invented Television to stop human progress by adding meaningless distraction to mankind, but then it worked too well and now everybody is stupid, and also teachers, the most important profession in the world, are egregiously underpaid.
Also, the Atom Bomb is an irredeemable enormity, and humans being so stupid as they are, the aliens view us as basically children or monkeys incapable of handling such destructive power.
It was a preachy series of books, but you could defeat the aliens by playing music, which was their secret weakness.

Well true, it might be better if I didn't get fast food biscuit action (I find it amusing how I dislike fast food a little less due to chicken, even if that's practically all I ever get). Those don't look so appetizing though if I'm being honest.
