I mean I'm at a point where I don't compulsively play the hardest difficulty for every game, that's what I meant when I said "over it." Not that I'd seen the light of majority opinion.
I'll be honest, most of my reasoning for not ever finishing Cave Story was that I found it unpleasantly difficult on the normal setting and never bothered to try it on Easy because I was a teenage boy and obviously that meant that turning it down was an unforgivable sin.
I really should give it another chance, but it won't be for a while, and I'll probably just start over because I think I had an unofficial port of it on my now-retired-maybe-permadead PSP.
I was never a "hard mode or nothing else" type of person, but I still felt like I needed to play on at least the normal settings when I was younger because anything less was going to be an insult to my intelligence.
After The Great Tumblr Epiphany of 2013, however, I generally cut the crap. These days I typically go from the normal/medium setting and work my way up or down from there.
