Okay, switching GDN_Comment and GDN_Discussion to InnoDB on the lappy doesn't hurt regular use, but it makes the search bar not work. No big loss, really, and we're going to Sphinx eventually anyway.
Could you figure out a way to make the quote-block feature keep names and whatnot when one italicises or bolds something in one's post? Also, is there a way to fix the name/quote problem with respect to names with umlauts and the like?

I've had that happen at times, usually when my connection is spotty...is it just this website you're having trouble with?
Sometimes when I post, the text disappears from the main box and reappears in a second editing box above it which I have to press "Post Comment" on to finish the transaction. Same thing happens with PMs, except that when I press the second "Send" button, it shows me an error message, so instead I just copy the text body from the second box, go to my profile, re-enter the conversation, re-post the text by pasting it and finally send it.
It does not take as long as that sounds, but it is somewhat irksome.

I've had that happen too. I haven't quite figured out what triggers it. :\
I'll admit: Vanilla is almost as buggy as TV Tropes and I'd like to switch to some more stable software, but I don't know if Lee would be up for that or if anyone else would want it.
What's happening is that Vanilla is heavily dependent on JavaScript and AJAX for a lot of things, and AJAX doesn't like unstable or lossy connections. That and Vanilla's client-side error-handing code is practically non-existent; just popping up an "error" box when something goes wrong is really not acceptable (and it makes it harder for me to figure out what went wrong).
All of these things are surmountable without an across-the-board change to another board system; I just need to make the time to fix them.
