I still don't quite understand why anyone who believes the majority isn't always right would support democracy as a form of government.
by meritocracy i mean people should be appointed to specific cabinet roles on the basis of relevant qualifications or working experience
not whatever basis they're appointed on in the UK at present, idk, favouritism? kind of feels like Cameron purposefully picked the people *least* qualified to do their jobs properly for each cabinet position
i mean i did lit, and my professors were mostly super into theory stuff, which is surely the number one culprit for producing pomo gibberish of the very worst kind
but it was made very clear before we began that writing like Derrida for an assignment was not recommended
Look, that blogpost was bad, and it's not like I called in a hit on him
that's fair
i found that post kinda interesting, because at the time i was kind of wondering why someone with apparent talent and intelligence would be so attached to the LW community
Have those libertarians trolling the Hugo Awards brought up the fact that H.G. Wells was a socialist who used his fiction to criticize colonialism(War Of The Worlds) and the developing class system(The Time Machine) and thus, SF was contaminated by icky icky politics from the beginning?

actually the best episodes by far are definitely the ones that centre on her and she is allowed to go off and follow her own logic no matter whereever crazy place it takes her

I like when they reveal that Star's wand is powered by a tiny unicorn on a treadmill

but i'd still want it to have democratic support

I mean even aside from stupid opinions, his art is bad and bland, and his writing is boring and overly wordy.
Even as a kid reading Mad Magazine, I just skipped over his stuff.
and they made a bunch of LW references that don't seem applicable
the world is unfair sometimes i suppose
most people i actually talk to seem really smart
but collectively they keep electing horrible people
how does democracy work
*gasp*

look at Tom Stoppard
i wasn't having a go
that "gasp" was meant as a joke, and my original post (before i noticed it was your thread) was mainly in response to the 'acausal robot god' post
so why Silicon Valley, why #gamergate, why Moldbug?
why do reddit and the *chans skew to the right? why is /pol/ nazis?
follow the smoke to the riff-filled land
Isn't Star Butterfly Great

she does her best

Why is it that a lot of rich people are gross.
what the heck nerds
stuff like this
idk why i'm complaining about "nerds" anyway, that's dumb
i do not have some special intrinsic connection to people who read sci-fi, play video games or collect stuff
they are not "my people", that's silly
or consumerism
@Anonus did criticize xkcd the other day for being too pro-STEM and anti-liberal arts
and for telling math jokes that are not accessible to a general audience
which i guess are both "math nerd"y things
