I drank too much and felt crappy. I mean, I've been feeling crappy lately (mentally/psychically/emotionally) b ut booze just makes it worse. And it makes certain bad decisions seem really good at the time.
the unit is on interwar literature and how it responds to/anticipates the two world wars. but the course convenor is the head of english who is insane in the best possible way, so we get questions like that, and our seminars are like, we read a load of virginia woolf or something, and then instead of discussing the war we just spend 45 minutes discussing hats and whether hats are the transcendental signifier. dont get me wrong its good fun but im not really sure what im going to focus on for when i spend 5,000 words answering the question 'Is it?'
Well, the line is clearly important in a conversation in one of those stories. So I guess the question is, "Is the character to whom this character asks that question ('Is it?') right or wrong, to your view? Why?"
I'm guessing that's the point, at least.
The last one is clearly about what Auden means by that line and your interpretation of it, but it's still an odd way to phrase it. I like it, though.
Read the first fourteen chapters of Gunnerkrigg Court over the course of about three hours. It is good. I like it. The art is very strange early on, but it does improve, which is nice.
I am very tired, but I am torn between not sleeping and getting back on track to a normal sleep schedule and just giving into sleep.
Things that bug me: How hard wordplay generally is to translate. Okami. It's a neat little pun, in that it can be read either as Ookami (wolf), or O Kami (Great God), whilst in English it just sounds like a random Japanese word. (For those who haven't played Okami, the main character is the sun goddess Amaterasu in the form of a wolf. Also play Okami.)
At least Bakemonogatari translates pretty well, if only by luck. (Bakemono means monster, whilst Monogatari means tale/story. AKA Monstory.)
If I'm not mistaken, the usual translation of bakemono is "ghost," thus: "Ghostory."
The curious Dual Nature of the word ookami has always intrigued me.
Really, there's a variety of translations for it, as is typical with Japanese. Monster, ghost, spirit, goblin. Basically, anything that goes bump in the night,

I had a dream there was some kind of company called Miko
Also I was at a One Saturday Morning-themed shopping mall and didn't know which restroom to use because somebody removed the signs

All I know is that in the dream the Miko company did something frustrating and I was like "goddamn stupid Miko!" but Miko heard me and I was like "oh crap, no not you, the company" and she ran away crying and I felt like an ass
