    And that's a baby hippo.

Well, not baby, but something young and not nearly done growing. Just look at its proportions.

they're young lions, and sufficiently inexperienced to not realize that tackling a hippo is a bad idea

note that they are smart enough to stay away from the jaws

they didn't succeed in killing it, though

Hippos are the only things Nile Crocodiles are scared of. The only things that bully us.

Hippos are the most dangerous living thing. Humans don't count 'cause tool use is bs.

A rhino is a horned, nearly bulletproof hippo but much, much slower and with less sheer muscle and endurance, so it is less scary.

A triceratops was essentially a hippo multiplied by a rhinoceros multiplied by an elephant.

But the world had more oxygen then, and all life was much greater than now.

I would love some context for this, but assuming "rabbit-bending" is suitable enough.

    Eeeeeeeyup.

Pygmy hippos are apparently quite good-natured, however, although the fact that they have little personal territory helps with that.

i think the human mind and opposable thumbs qualify as natural characteristics... not like we're the only animals to use tools

still, though, hippos kill more than 2000 human beings per year, so they pretty clearly win this round

crocodiles are actually their only natural predator, overconfident lionesses notwithstanding, but a hippo's bite can snap a crocodile in half

i have absolutely no idea, so let's go with that

of course as far as human beings are concerned, the most dangerous animal in Africa is actually the malarial mosquito
  • The article I saw that picture in was titled "Woman chased by hundreds of gently stampeding rabbits for a snack".

Yeah, we're their only natural predator, but they're our only fear.

    Hippos are terrifying.

I got the Valentine's Day present Anonus sent me

It's totally awesome, there's a chocolate heart from HOUSE INDUSTRIES and lots of cool House Industries promotional stuff in the box with it

I took pictures of it all; I'll show them off after class
  • The whole world is chocolate
  • Hallo

I have a suspected kidney infection

    Yay
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
There might be a malaria vaccine on the market as early as 2015. Phase III clinical trials showed it was about 45% effective in preventing the disease in those who've never been exposed.

Which is a big step forward, and kind of depressing that 45% is the best we've been able to achieve so far.

    ^^ Hey, Tools.

That sucks. Get well soon for us!

^ There are also zillions of effective malaria-fighting drugs already. The problem is distribution...
  • Get well soon You tool...

Since November(ish), I've had really bad back pain, and all the doctor's did was give me painkillers. I thought it was sciatica, but then I went to a specialist last Wednesday who jabbed me in the sides and said "It's your kidneys". Had a blood test and urine sample sent off and getting results back on Wednesday.

On strong painkillers and antibiotics. Yay.

I'll recover soon. Since being on these drugs, I've drastically improved <3

    ^^ That's good...

Sucks that they took so long to identify it, though.  Doesn't exactly fill you with confidence in the NHS, does it?
  • When I first went to the doctor, he told me to go to A&E. They diagnosed what they thought it was (no scan!), and gave me strong painkillers. The pain came back and I went back to the doctor, who prescribed me more drugs and told me to go away. It took me being in floods of tears and two of my coursemates demanding to see a doctor before I finally saw a specialist.

    Hi Tools!

It sucks that you had to go through that...glad to hear you're getting better, though

Why live in the real world when I can pretend I'm a superuser. Or whatever I said before, who really cares.

You have superuser privileges in your imagination!
  • I'm just glad that it's a suspected kidney infection and not a trapped nerve or a slipped disk.

Things I learned recently: That surprisingly epic theme NBC plays over Olympic "coming up next" montages is actually Randy Edelman's theme for The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., a steampunk Western that ran on Fox for all of one season back in 1993-94.

I found that out a while ago...

It's kind of funny how the theme song for a show that ran for one season 20 years ago gained a second life like that

Hee hee, I'm glad someone caught that!
  • Well, it's health alright, but they hardly care.
  • Also, whatever happened to the Heaper Norman Bates? Are they ok?

Norman Bates had a name change to Nohaynicklibre.

EDIT: Sorry, that is wrong. I was mistaken on that point.

    She did not.

Norman didn't seem particularly happy here... i suspect she only stuck around because she was hoping Ace would come back :(

^ This is true, sadly. But Norman was not very happy about many things. She mentioned that her family was heading to Laos...

Sorry, I didn't know about those last few posts from Norman.
  • Norman was in Mibbit the other day (maybe even yesterday?) so I think she's alright.

    Yeah, yesterday.

For the uninformed: Ace died last February. Nobody knows why, but I did find her obituary (it has her birth name on it, so I'm hesitant to link to it publicly)...

Anonus, I think it would be better to not link to it.

(At least unless Norman says it's alright).

I don't think that he was going to, but for future reference, I agree.

I think I remember hearing something about Ace's diabetes getting worse and that it's most likely what she died of?
