Whoa, isn't your computer relatively new?

    I hope I don't have trouble with mine...it's the same brand. >_<

Galaxy Tab, eh? Anonus has one of those. I think he likes it, since he uses it a lot when he's tired.
  • my computer is new, it's also pretty much bottom-of-the-barrel

    What show?

    The Big Bang Theory.

Funny, I just had a discussion with my brother about my unsure feelings about it. The show is legitimately funny but the problem with it is that it's too much of a wonderland for stereotypes for me to handle, and I always feel a little uncomfortable as a result.

There are lots of good things to enjoy in the world that won't make you uncomfortable. Trust me, things that you can unreservedly enjoy are a lot more fun.

    Pasta.

Pfft, our old Pentium II with 32 megs of RAM and a 6-gig hard drive could view porn. I know this from experience.

    Amusing (SFW) anecdote:

When we got that computer back in 1998, my dad started looking at porn online, not knowing that Internet Explorer kept a browsing history. When my mom found out about it, she used her computer magic (she worked for CompuServe at the time) to make the porn sites inaccessible without a password. My dad, not realizing it was just those sites, called her at work one night and said "what's the password to the computer?" to which she replied "what do you need the password for?"

(Mind you, I was 8 at the time, so I didn't find out about this until long after the fact)

Also: the only problem with low-end computers, in my experience, is that they're basically disposable.

It occurred to me a while back that the reason my friends keep their Macs for 5 or 6 years at a time while I was eager to ditch my Dell after 4 and a half years was that the latter was cheap to begin with and was starting to experience problems a Mac of that age probably wouldn't.
  • My iMac had yearly hard drive issues until I upgraded to Mtn. Lion and the HDD got replaced with a 1tb one, which seems to be a hell of a lot more stable than whatever they'd been putting in before.

It's still kicking after 3 updates to OS X and 5 years.

Hey, Wikipedia murdered Brittannica.  Every day I wake up and remember that she's no more; that the last great bastion of the print encyclopedia was slaughtered on the altar of modernism and economic necessity.  Brittannica is dead and somehow, without reason or justice, I'm still alive.

    Shut up, dramatic Aliroz!

    Alright, killjoy.

    From the Sinfest Forums:

Cake should be banned. Cake should be banned because there's no way it could have existed back in the hunter-gatherer days.

Evolution is driven by the selective force of consumption. We are alive today because our ancestors were very successful at processing meats, fruits, vegetables and roots into near-copies of themselves.

The eating of grains is a recent development, an aberration. The scant few hundred generations since humans adopted grains have not given us time to properly adapt to them. To choose to eat grains is to embrace poor health. The eating of dairy is an even more recent development. To choose to eat dairy is to embrace poor health. To choose to eat refined sugars (I shouldn't have to explain this one) is to embrace poor health.

Cakes are made from flour (unnatural), butter (unnatural) & refined sugar (unnatural). See: coeliac disease, lactose-intolerance & diabetes. Cakes are a cocktail of poisons. They should be treated exactly as any other dangerous drug. For the good of society, we must tolerate their presence no longer!

Soooooooooooo, I just hate search engines in general, especially Bing and Google. I think I hate Bing more, because I have a bit of an I'm The Only One Allowed To Defeat You thing with Google. I don't want Bing stealing all my killing-Google-ness!

I am entirely too reliant on Google as a whole in my everyday life and I have made no attempt to change this despite recognizing it for several years

Granted, the only viable alternative is to become even more dependent on Microsoft instead, and that doesn't look like a much more appealing option

Again, it makes more information more easily accessible to more people. While getting specialized information from it is not a good idea, anyone with an actual interest in a topic will use more sources, and as such it just means that more people will be able to learn.
