I'm perfectly okay with living in my Halls of residence 60 odd miles away from home, by myself, for weeks and months on end. I'm perfectly okay crashing round my sister's house, by myself, for a week. But as soon as I am alone in my parents house for two nights, I'm a nervous wreck.

I do the same thing. I've heard it's pretty normal for people with anxiety to get really scared in big empty houses.
I get anxious when I am alone in this house, which isn't large at all but has a significant yard and is fairly isolated from the surrounding neighbourhoods. Also, I am a nervous wreck in general.

turns out my computer was overheating due to weird Windows Defender shenanigans, and after a lot of troubleshooting i ended up having to just disable it altogether
sooooo i need antivirus software! and i remember hearing bad things about malwarebytes as of late (?) so i have no idea what i should get
I've been using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free ever since Calica and others recommended it to me years ago, and have genuinely had no problems. I even use it alongside AdwCleaner occasionally, and WinDef itself. I've heard good things about Avira and BitDefender, at least? Rogueamp also has some reviews of antivirus software.
