because 1*1 is only adding one one.

if you have 2*2, that's four because you take a two, and put another two next to it. if you have 1*2, that's two because you take a two and then you're done. if you have 1*1 that's one because you take a one and then you're done.

    multiply(2,2) = add(2,2), multiply(3,2) = add(2,2,2), multiply(4,2) = add(2,2,2,2), multiply(1,2) = add(2) = 2.
  • Thing I learned today: The duchy of Prussia was the first protestant state when it changed from the Teutonic order to said duchy.

you can recreate this in EU4.

I get it I guess but intuitively it seemed dumb at the time.
  • mind you I was also the kid in class who was like "why are there letters in our math problems" when they started teaching algebra.

I was also the non-kid in class who was still taking basic algebra in college, so.

Much like how an excess supply of goods causes the goods' value to drop, all of humanity becoming well-off is equivalent to rich people disappearing from the world.

apparently touhou takes place in the glorious socialist revolutionary future

You can? That's awesome. I mean, I never played as the Teutonic order before my game started acting weird (Still need to hop on the paradox forums and ask someone about that, but I've been enjoying playing Ck2 too much to bother honestly).

One of the ways to form Prussia proper is to own several cores as the Teutonic Order and flip to Protestant.

It's easier to do it with Brandenburg though I think.

I can believe that. Poland is usually breathing down the Teutonic Order's neck right from the start in most games I've played.

If history has taught me anything, it's that you should be ready for a Polish-Lithuanian alliance if you intend to be a Teutonic knight. History has taught me other things, but that is definitely the main thing.

then how do you explain this bullshit

Math is the language of raw logic, so when you are logical you are then math.
  • well Poland gets an event quite early on to get a free personal union over Lithuania.

The Commonwealth usually follows but not always.

Difficulty with abstract mathematics is actually a learning disability associated with certain forms of autism spectrum disorder. My best friend offline can barely do algebra and he just graduated from Hampshire, which contrary to what you'd expect from a hippie liberal arts school is really fucking hard.

It's not that I don't understand what they mean, it's that I thought they were stupid and as a child was sort of convinced that school was some kind of elaborate scam.

Mind you just because I grasp the basic concept of a variable doesn't actually mean that I know how to do most algebra. I flunked Remedial Algebra A twice in college.

math education is silly. i'm basically the smartest person ever, as you know from my monograph on the subject of how great i am, and i still nearly failed a few math classes. they're so tremendously boring and i say that as someone reading engineering textbooks on a sunday evening
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
That is also a problem, yes.

Sometimes I'm perversely glad that I flunked out of the civilised world because it means never having to show my work for a math problem in some dumbass way ever again period. Although it also means that I'll never get a chance to show off my literary analysis abilities outside of, I dunno, conversations and silly internet articles ever again. Or advance my place in society by normal means, in this current system.

    Hm.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    I'm babbling. Ignore me.

does that mean that you live in somewhere uncivilized now? do you live in antarctica? can i come? it seems fun

*renames Imipolex G Boulevard to Meanie Way*

    Meanie Way, woohoo

The administration of the University of Centralia has informed me that they'd prefer I'd not rename their streets on a whim

Apparently a Royal Post truck ended up driving around in circles for three hours trying to deliver books to a library on Imipolex G Boulevard because I'd ordered all the signs changed to Meanie Way
