I marathoned NGE and EoE a couple of weeks ago, and I do think it is worth watching and respecting, if not necessarily liking (though I admit there are moments where I can sympathize with the characters).

Ignoring all the symbolism and the wacky ending, one reason to watch Eva is that it's a really good mecha show.

It's also an excellent deconstruction of a mecha show. But that doesn't stop it from being a really good mecha show.

it has a shield whose elemental weakness keeps changing, that's represented by a d4

but then it has another d4 that deals attacks

then it adds a d6 that deals more attacks

then it adds a d8 that deals more attacks

and so on

so at the end of the battle you have a d4 (or better yet, a d10 that includes two faces of "physical") that changes weakness type, and then an additional 6 attack dice that all attack you

I tried some Normal scoring in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil because I am a lame-o and I can get some rather nice high scores in the first four stages but stage 5 is where I gave up, because the bombs are timed to specific notes in the music, they are so precise, and there is some serious hitbox abuse on Sakuya's first pattern that is really dangerous. I am lame. Wow. On the bright side, I topped some old scores and also can get 130 mil + so whatevs.
