Also the new movie may actually have an even worse premise than the first. I mean, there's only so much disastrous scaffolding a good writing team can make up for.
Dammit, just make a regular FIM movie. These things tend to work better when you start with something that will actually foster a decent story from the beginning instead of having to desperately claw your way up to watchable mediocrity.
"It is a matter of grave importance that Fairy tales should be respected.... Whosoever alters them to suit his own opinions, whatever they are, is guilty, to our thinking, of an act of presumption, and appropriates to himself what does not belong to him." -- Charles Dickens
Yeah, that met my expectations. Weird Al basically plays himself (as opposed to a robot motorcycle, I guess).
I was amused by the implication that Pinkie's goal in life is to be a big fish in a small pond. I mean Cheese Sandwich started later and became a famous party planner all across Equestria.
...Why would you make a story that hinges that heavily on music, and then make it a book? I mean, as much as I giggle at the prospect of the line "and then Rarity rocked the fuck out", it's a form of media that rather defeats the point of what was already a terrible and incredibly cliched premise.
Also I watched the new episode while sick. I think it had exactly the effect Pinkie would want :)
Now we're three for three on episodes featuring keys to have "animation errors" involving random ponies becoming alicorns in the background. And since the latest accidental alicorn is one of the Mane Six, that makes it even less likely that it's really an accident.
Megan McCarthy joked on Twitter that it's conditioning the bronies to get used to the idea of random alicorns, so they don't flip out when the rest of the mane six become alicorns in the season 4 finale. Of course, she also seemed to be joking when she said that a future episode would be named "Bats!"
Whatever this is building towards, I'm very amused by the idea of disguising foreshadowing as animation errors.

Ahahaha, Simple Ways was hilarious. It's my favorite of the season now. Rarity being oblivious to Spike and then the accent and overalls - hysterical. And then came Apple Jewel.

It had quite a few great, laugh out loud moments.
I just loved the look Spike tossed to the fourth wall. They could have made him a blubbering crybaby, but they opted for the best possible reaction of him just sort of going, 'The things I do for love...'
I'm not sure what made it more: Spike catching the biggest irony bomb in the series like a boss, or Rarity being completely unable to hold a drawl in a bucket.
At the moment, Hasbro is preforming a webcast for their investors and has confirmed a few things according to SweetieBot who has been hanging out in the webcast. Apparently EqG WILL be in theaters and the Rainbow Kingdom playsets WILL tie in with the show somehow.
The webcast is wrapping up, but you can find it here. Interesting news I must say!
Update: Webcast is over and an executive said the following, that MLP will last five more years. If we assume one season per year we can expect at least five more seasons. To clarify this is only an assumption! As mentioned by others the current generation could last five years but not the show.

Screw that, let's ship Twilight Sparkle with Shining Armor!

I'm wondering if this is true of many incest ships. Like... if I went looking for Dave X Rose pics, would it mostly be porn I find?
Something I noted that this doesn't seem to extend to some of the r63 self-cest. Like Rainbow Dash X Rainbow Blitz seems to have way more cute shipping fics than porn.

Silver Spoon is one of the available playable characters in Gameloft's mobile game. An in-game advertisement for her uses fanart[4] depicting her as a grown mare,[5] though her in-game character model matches her usual appearance.[6]

No, let's flipping not.
I don't ship any of the mane seven with anyone, except Spike/Rarity. the rest are, in my headcanon, aces and it's all platonic because GOSH DANG IT SHIPPERS, YOU ALREADY BASICALLY HAVE ALL OF FICTION.
Anyways, in non-awful things related to MLPFIM, my new headcanon for what the special thing of Earth Ponies is is something related to geology. Also, related to how all the crystal ponies are earth ponies, something like that.
And maybe having to do with the 670 KM discontinuity; after which we just don't know what the heck is going on.
And maybe the planet on which Equestria is, maybe it, like our Earth, is going through a time of a weaker magnetic field, and (in the very, very long run) approaching a magnetic reversal. So, since the magnetic field would be weaker, Earth Pony stuff would be weaker, which is why we don't see it at all in the series.
I just want Earth Ponies to have geology-related powers because screw magic and screw flying, I could have had a Vei-8.

I do think Earth Ponies often have some sort of attunement with the earth, though it's perhaps rather nebulous.
Pinkie's family is all rock farmers with her being the odd one out. However, part of her party aspect seems to extend to baking. If we look at Applejack, she's an apple farmer (apples coming from the earth) but also an expert baker (flour and other ingredients also coming from the earth). So, I think earth ponies do receive a benefit aside from the assumption that they're stronger and more stalwart then the other races.
As for the shipping, I think canon is slowly chipping away at the notion that the mane characters are disinterested in romance.
Equestria Girls was acknowledged as canon, if not likely to have a direct impact on the show (except we got this gem:
Rarity also had something of a creepy stalker crush on Trenderhoof.
Though, Applejack's disinterest might fuel the idea she doesn't care about romance, but I find it much more likely she thought Trenderhoof's fascination with farm life was a tad off-putting given he obviously didn't know anything about it.
The other three, likewise, haven't been shown to display romantic feelings for anypony, but the show has at least demonstrated that it doesn't mind using romance as a plot point, with the main characters (looks like many of the background characters are actually in relationships, already), so we might see more of it in the future.
MLPFIM and One Piece are among the shows I know that are doing the job of showing platonic relationships to be just as valid, real, meaningful, powerful, and awesome as romantic.
The focus is on the friendships; and it's trashing the idea that you can be "just" friends; as if friends was something limited; something inherently inferior to or less than romance.
I'm fine with romance happening and being focused on, but the name of the show is Friendship is magic. Well, also, romantic love is magic, too (see: Shining Armor and Princess Cadence); but I really like the focus on friendship, it's not common enough in fiction.
And, as for the attunement being nebulous, that would be explained by the waning magnetic field.

I'm fine with the focus on friendship to, especially when it comes to shipping the mane 6 with other members of the mane six.
Though, I know shippers, even a few here have their mane 6 ships and that's okay. :P
I'd imagine the show will continually focus on friendship for the most part. I'd be pretty amazed if any of the mane 6 got a coltfriend or even got married (but I'd laugh myself to sleep a few nights if it was Flash Sentry and Twilight).
It would be interesting to see if anything will be done with Spike and Rarity. If we can expect at least five more years, it's going to be kinda strange and sad if Rarity is still making Spike do a lot of her dirty work, and Spike is gleefully doing it just because he's so happy Rarity is even talking to him...
I remember reading a thread somewhere where someone's mindcannon about Earth Ponies was that they had thicker bones (Fliers would obviously need more hollow bones for flight) and this explains why most of the Alicorns are massive ponies,
