jsyk zestpoole adventure will probably not be happening quite as soon as was intended
i know this is a lot of fuss and stalling over a lot of ms paint scribbles but i really can't at the moment
once i get back into the swing of things in meatspace, then i'll do it
good night
Hey, no rush. I'd rather a comfortably done Zestventure over one where you're stressing and fretting, and adding another quasi-obligation by way of Zest's Fun Times into the mix. I hope you slept well.

Is it just me, or do some people put more effort into trying to painstakingly avoiding the "upgrade to Windows 10 today!" popups than they would have to put into actually getting their computer working decently with Windows 10?

I mean, I don't like it as much as I liked Windows 7, so I can see why someone might wanna stick with Windows 7 if they have that.
But...why does anyone want to keep Windows 8?? Are there actually people who prefer the half-assed tablet-UI-on-a-laptop thing to having a proper Start menu?

Granted, this isn't a new thing.
This happens with every new Windows release: everybody complains about how awful it is at first, but then when a newer release comes along, suddenly everyone wants to stick to the old one.
Remember when Windows XP was new? People complained about how it was a bloated memory hog and they said the window theme looked childish ("Fisher-Price" was a common, and to me infuriating, insult)...but then when Windows Vista and 7 came along you had people swearing by XP as if it were the best thing MS ever put out.

I don't wanna upgrade cuz I'm afraid it will break my laptop, not because I have any particular attatchment to Windows 8.
See, that makes sense.
Though we're at a point where Microsoft is being increasingly intrusive with upgrade offers, so soon we'll be at the point where it will be easier to give in and do the upgrade than to continue to try and dismiss the offers.
I'm sure this is their plan. On principle I should probably complain about something like this, but...I just can't.

Yeah, like, when people complained about Windows XP's default window them, they almost invariably said it looked too "Fisher-Price" for them
And that particular phrasing makes me angry...but I have no idea why. My moods are weird sometimes.

Well I already found a stable workaround in the form of Classic Start Menu.
And did I say Classic Shell? I meant Classic Start Menu. You get my point.
Also, Win8.1 actually does have a better Task Manager than Win7.

I never used a custom Start menu in Windows 8 for two reasons:
1. I didn't like any of the ones I tried. They all emulated the appearance of Windows 7's Start menu instead of just the functionality. I don't want the fake glass effect or the big rounded corners or any of that...the flat, minimalist appearance of 8 was one of the few things I really liked about it compared to 7.
2. I didn't want to become reliant on it. I frequently have to help my family members with their computers, so I wanted to be able to comfortably use a "stock" Windows 8 setup without relying on third-party programs for basic things like launching programs.

one of the things I hated about Windows 7 was starter edition.
Let's hear it for having to install a third party program to change your desktop background.
Yeah that was pretty dumb.
I don't know what the point of that really was? Ostensibly the idea was that it was a cheaper version for the computer manufacturers to put on low-end machines, but it was the end user, not the manufacturer, who ended up suffering for it.

I just don't want to upgrade yet. I do not like it, and I can surely grow to tolerate, and then perhaps like it, in time, but the very thought is not something I want to consider right now.
Perhaps I should read up on it more and search out positives, but as is, the utter forcefulness has preemptively soured me on it. No less given how it went, I guess unsurprisingly, from "Yeah it's a thing" to "UPGRADE WITHIN A YEAR" or blah de blah.
Also breaking is a thing. I need to get my crap backed up but I'm not putting up with that balderdash anytime soon. I suppose I fit in to the people preferring Win8 too, not that I see why I should care, honestly.

capella came with windows 8 and i was pissed when the windows 10 install took forever

it *will* get to that point, which i resent
annoying your own customers should not be the goal
thing is i am *not* going to upgrade, i am fairly sure this computer isn't even going to last much longer, so the pop-ups are just a pain

That's why I like Windows 98 classic style the most, honestly. Clear square edges for everything.
