Hughes was a fascinating man. Regardless of his reprehensible behaviour, it's easy to pity him when you hear about him going so crazy he would collect his own urine in jars.
Do onto others (etc.), (at least try to) be rational (still working on that myself), love everyone, embrace your inner unicorn and respect your tongue for it will serve you well. And also no press-on nails.

^^^It started out as the "Prevue Guide" (later "Prevue Channel"), which was devoted to a scrolling grid ("scrid") displaying TV listings below a feed of promos and stuff. It got its name changed to the "TV Guide Channel" in 1999, and to "TV Guide Network" in 2007 in an attempt to reposition it as an entertainment-industry-oriented channel. Lionsgate bought it in 2009 and has done away with that format; it is now primarily composed of reruns of old sitcoms no one else wants anymore and older movies.
Oh wow, Kroger ads from 1988. I'm surprised I don't remember those, seeing as I would have been in one of Kroger's biggest markets (Huntington, WV, which also happens to be not far from Cincinnati) at the time. Then again, I think Foodland and Big Bear advertised more.
I do remember the big COST CUTTER scissors, though. :D
Also, here at work we still run our credit cards over dialup, since we process a very low volume and it's easier to be PCI-DSS compliant when there's no Internet involved.
Naney: What markets are in your area? Around here, the big ones are Giant (formerly locally-owned store that still has a lot of brand loyalty), Safeway, Shoppers Food Warehouse (hasn't changed much since the 1990s despite being owned by SUPERVALU), and the Carolinian relative newcomers Harris Teeter and Food Lion (the latter of which is huge in Virginia and Maryland).
When I lived in Central Virginia, it was pretty much Food Lion (Charlottesville had like a half-dozen of them) and Kroger, and we usually ended up at Food Lion because it was cheaper.

Ooh, just in time for the grocery conversation!
Our big ones are:
Kroger
Giant Eagle
Meijer (a hypermarket, so they have general merchandise as well)

Weirdly, I had somehow forgotten that "stick scissors everywhere" used to be Kroger's shtick. It seems to have gone out the window entirely after they introduced the Plus card and made you sign up to get any sales prices.

See, that makes sense. But when you run a grocery store I can't imagine you have a low volume of credit cards--though where that particular store is located, I doubt it ever gets very busy, so what do I know.

We used to have Cub around here, forever ago. But they only had 2 or 3 locations and they found it wasn't very profitable so they sold their Columbus-area stores to Kroger in 1997. I think all of them have since closed now, the last one being the Kroger at Columbus Square.

We do that too, though half the time my mother is lazy and just picks stuff up at Meijer even though she knows it costs more.

My family is at that point where my parents have just enough income not to qualify for foodstamps. -_-

That must not have been fun.
Also why does nobody call Lionsgate/Summit "Lionsummit"? It makes more sense.
I'm so glad. They never had any clue what to do with it and it was of no help to them.

I don't even know what press-on nails are.
^Fake fingernails.
Perhaps I ought to go look over my work for today.
I should have been in bed like three hours ago.
I have posted here before, but only very irregularly; I mostly stuck with the original Heap, like a good hipster should.
Our big ones are:
Aldi
Lidl
Asda
Tesco
Morrisons
Rainbow used to be a really bad place until they were bought out by Roundy's. Cub is pretty standard
...You pay for convenience, I guess?
