Centie, even the most ardent modern socialists do not believe in an absolute command economy like that. For one thing, it would be ridiculously ungainly and nigh-impossible to oversee every solitary independent service, and for another would afford really alarming opportunities for censorship and content restriction.

But really, that's something you would have actually considered under normal circumstances. Because when you start saying you're terribly angry about things that matter that little, it's indicative that you're not thinking rationally to begin with, because you're already negatively emotionally preoccupied with something else entirely.

Like, my ideal society wouldn't have money at all.

"So what would motivate people to work, if they're not getting anything in return?" you ask.

Well, they are getting something in return. They're getting the opportunity to remain in society.

The government provides food, but if you decide to just not work, you don't get any food.
The government provides shelter, but if you decide to just not work, you don't get a home.
The government provides entertainment, but if you decide to just not work, you don't get any.
    And so on.

Any and all resources would be under the control of the central government, who distributes them equally. There are no "rich people" or "poor people" because the government gives everyone the same amount. If the government attempts to deviate from this, the people will violently overthrow them and install a new government.

There will, of course, be accommodations for people who are unable to work for whatever reason, or people whose ability to work is limited, but I think the basic idea holds.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I could explain the logical issues with this situation, but I'm going to instead ask you several very important questions: Are you particularly upset or angry? Can you think of any particular, obvious reasons why you might be upset or angry? Have you taken your medication?

I suppose the obvious reason I'm upset is that 👦🏾 is now apart from me again, but I can't think of any particular connection between that and this

You upset over AU leaving and handling it badly, Centie?

    Wow, ninja.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
There doesn't need to be a direct line between two such things. You've no doubt noticed that by now.

Can someone explain to me why so many businesses require more documentation to change the name on your account than they ever did to assign a name to your account in the first place?

Like, anyone can create a BestBuy.com account with no documentation, but to update my name, I have to show documentation of my legal name change. It makes no sense to me.

("Why didn't you just create a new account?" Because I don't want to lose my purchase history.)

I don't think the management at my work actually listens to the lyrics of the songs they play on the radio.

I'm not entirely certain that the "all the other kids something something sticks, better run better run faster than my bullet" and, "up all night for good fun, something something get lucky" are appropriate song lyrics for a church-owned establishment, but then again, the "wrecking Ball" song comes on at least twice a day.

Oh well, that's why I bring hearing protection to work, I guess.

Well Wrecking Ball doesn't have inappropriate lyrics, it just had a music video with nudity

  • My dreams exceed my real life
tbf I feel like the age difference creates enough of a power imbalance that even if the older person is cute, they're likely to be in some way manipulative or predatory if they are seeking you out

Toolsie was just browsing though, so probably not this guy, but he probably wants someone in his age range
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”

    agreed
  • Take a grid for example.

    4 x 4

    16 possible spaces

    [__][__][__][__]
    [__][__][__][__]
    [__][__][__][__]
    [__][__][__][__]

granted enough perspective, even the number of possibilities is still limited. so too, are the choices we make.

like water, each choice you make will ripple forth onto your next choice, a static board this is not.

My sister bought a bottle of sugar free maple syrup, and I'm not convinced that something can actually qualify as syrup if it's sugar free.

Quite frequently "sugar-free" doesn't mean "carbohydrate-free" or "calorie-free". I suspect this "syrup" has a non-trivial amount of CMC or some other solubilized cellulose in it.

i had a similar experience when i accidentally skipped the first episode of a one piece (filler) arc

so the story began in medias res and everybody had lost their memory of one another

sufficiently little had happened that i didn't notice i'd missed an episode, but enough had happened that i was having to pay attention to figure how we got where we were, which was definitely an improvement
  • this might be a bold statement, but i think a lot of stories are improved in some manner by randomly hacking bits out

s/o to my man Brian Evenson for making a career out of doing this to horror stories
  • My dreams exceed my real life
The movie Dark City had a studio mandated edit that put a monologue that was supposed to come near the end of the movie at the beginning, to explain the central mystery of what was going on and explain the whole plot right out the gate in case audiences were in danger of being intrigued, and the biggest change in the director's cut is just removing that monologue and putting it back near the end.

    Is what I'm reminded of

I tried the new Coca-Cola Zero Sugar when I was at the hotel with @Anonus.

I like it well enough. It tastes less "artificial" than the previous Coke Zero, somehow.

But it's also driving me mad because it tastes familiar but I can't quite put my finger on what it reminds me of...
