    cool
  • yes, tropes are a bunch of tools, and they are used in every work, and it's interesting to analyze a work to see what tropes it uses

but you can't simply say "oh i'm going to play with these tools and i'm going to see what they do"

    no

the whole point is you start with an IDEA, a MESSAGE, a CORE FOCUS

and then how do you use those tools to deliver and embellish that idea
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.

I think I don't really pay too much attention to the big picture, because I think I focus more on the smaller things in life. And I'm ok with that.

I think one has to focus on the small things in life in order to make changes to the big picture.

Simply ordering the big picture to change doesn't work.

The big picture determines grand strategy, but not details of tactics.

I think I worded that wrong. I mean that I kinda have little to no drive to change the big picture.

and the policymakers try to figure out the right incentives to convince you to do certain small things that will change or preserve a certain big picture

Or at least I think what you said was related to politics. Like I said, I don't think I'm that smart.

Well, it was less related to politics and more related to poilcymaking.

I was just sorta laying bare one frequently-used idea in policymaking.

It's like making a tax rebate for people who buy a certain kind of car, in order to try to make that kind of car sell better.  Policymakers change the incentives in order to change the people's individual decisions.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  And sometimes it's a good thing, while sometimes it's a bad thing.  It all depends.
  • just a mechanism

like all tools, it can be used for good or for ill
  • I see then. I don't really have much to respond to that to be honest. I just want to live my simple life the way I'd like to.
  • Sometimes I long for simpler days from my past.
  • Like when I wouldn't have to worry about when or how to get my work done, but all I had to worry about was not getting caught by my parents by listening carefully enough to the sound of the garage door when I was playing on my Game Boy.

the sound of the garage door, a boon to so many a sneaky child

more like the bane, since that meant they're back

and i'd also learn to estimate the time it took for them to be out and how i needed to be fast about taking a shower if i hadn't started yet and they were almost home and expected me to have showered

    and stuff like that
  • line of sight from the garage/laundry door to the edge of the entertainment cabinet that jutted outward

this is an important, important thing
  • also, having multiple escape routes when possible

also being very light of step while also being speedy, on both carpet and tile (later hardwood)
  • edited 2015-11-18 04:27:17
hard flooring is hard to be sneaky on when barefoot (especially vinyl, but tile and hardwood too)

in general it's just better to be wearing socks

    be extremely quiet
