It's weird to me, because prior to MLP:FiM i tended to avoid fandoms anyway, and one of the reasons i became more relaxed towards them was seeing how chill and basically self-aware the bronies seemed to be for the most part.
i mean there were always creeps but before it felt like they were in the minority.
Honestly, my opinion of the show itself has lowered. I still like it somewhat, but not the way I did around a year or two ago.
At the very least it's one of the few things of value on its network, but there's better animation elsewhere (past and present) and the show isn't exactly God's gift to mankind.
The fandom just seems to be kind of in a downward spiral, going by secondhand accounts.

As for Homestuck...I started reading in early 2011, read extremely slowly due to lack of interest, then sat down and read most of Act 5 in a week because I wanted to catch up before the act ended (which, amusingly, didn't happen for another 6 months).
Then I kinda lost interest after Act 6 started, though Anonus has convinced me to catch up because apparently Trickster Mode is some hilarious shit. I've got little less than a year's worth of material still to catch up on; hopefully I can do so quickly.
“No it isn’t!” I retort, desperation creeping into my voice. “It’s queerbaiting! It’s bad writing combined with homophobia!”
“BUT MOFFAT! PERFECT! SO GAY!”
“No!” I scream over the crowd. “Steven Moffat is an incredibly flawed writer! Look how flimsy his Doctor Who plots are! Look at the lack of a coherent theme or narrative! Look how little depth or variety his female characters have!”
“STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS!” they screech in return.
He’s won. Steven Moffat has won. He’s acquired a completely uncritical fanbase who can’t see when they’re being toyed with and played for fools. I let out a broken sob and collapse in despair. As I fall to the ground, the crowd freezes momentarily before they all shout in tearful chorus:
