You should watch Welcome to the NHK at some point.

    Just sayin'. That line.
  • kill living beings
i can't imagine killing myself in a group

i suppose the author couldn't either
  • My dreams exceed my real life
Also stuff you should probably know.

In the Manga, early on Gon explains that he had his life saved by a travelling hunter named Kite, and this was actually his primary motivation for becoming a Hunter. The dadfinding thing was secondary.

This is still true in the anime, but they introduce it much later for some reason.

Also there was a prior anime not done by Madhouse that ended with Greed Island. General consensus is that this one understands the characters better.

I mentioned this a while ago, actually. Although not in such detail.
  • i was aware of the latter, not of the former.

i wonder why they introduced Kite later in this anime? im on the episode where they introduce him now...

They might not have been planning to do Chimera Ant, because it gets fairly dark at points.

They ratings were good enough that they did do it, though.
  • Ahhhh I see.

I'm quite excited for this actually, not often that i feel this way about TV series arcs
  • also out of idle curiosity, is Hisoka more or less pedo-tastic in the source material?
  • also one other important thing:

  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
"...what are you doing to my family?"

    About the same, I've heard.

I have not read the manga, I have just heard these thigns.
  • Ah, ok.

because i was wondering if maybe they toned it down for the TV show

but that in turn led me to wonder how he could possibly be more molestastic

I'll keep you both safe forever.
    NO

NO CHILD DO NOT SAY THAT

NOTHING GOOD WILL COME OF IT

    ...

    ;_;
  • god this is the most obvious, manipulative series of events ever, like a hammer to the face

and just like a hammer to the face it's obviousness has no impact on it's effectiveness

The best endorsement of Hunter X Hunter I can give is that there's an arc where the heroes are acting out of fear, revenge, and ruthless pragmatism and the main villains are acting out of pure, overwhelming, childlike love for each other and for their society, and you can still see why the heroes are the heroes and the villains are the villains.

    the selling point is accurate.
  • Not a hybrid rabbit-skink spirit
Sounds like I need to watch this Hunter thing
  • My dreams exceed my real life
Have any of the Royal Guard been born yet, Naney?
  • no, i think that's next episode...
  • My dreams exceed my real life
They are some of my favorite characters in an arc that has a lot of good characters.

The firstborn Royal Guard is actually the most popular character, in front of Hisoka even.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
Also they are all more complicated than they appear to be at first glance.
  • well, we're gonna meet him/her this episode it seems!
  • what i'm wondering is where they got their clothes

  • My dreams exceed my real life
    Well it's a kids show!

Having watched the fifteenth episode of RahXephon and finally found out what Isshiki's deal is... I am really sad now. Creepy smug albinistic dude needs a hug.
  • kill living beings
    oh THAT sarcastic sleazy guy.

    ha, ha, ha

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Oh, I know that he's shaping up to do something awful and likely very stupid. But at the same time, I pity him.

Or rather, I pity the child who became him.
  • kill living beings
    he doesn't want the D
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
No, that's [the guy that he's cloned from. Isshiki has the unfortunate distinction of being the D. And a "mass production model" at that.] That will fuck you up.

It took Soulja Boy about 15 seconds to stop making any sense whatsoever.

Glenn, what anime do you actually like? Because you keep referencing things without explaining where they are from or stuff that you don't actually like and it's sort of exasperating.

On a different note, episode nineteen...

    ["Ayato - goodbye."]

    My soul hurts now.

Apparently a Parasyte anime is debuting this October.

For those who don't know what Parasyte is, here is all you need to know.

I loved that show as a kid!
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I was in high school when it premiered, but I liked it just the same.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    It was a good show.
  • Glenn, what anime do you actually like? Because you keep referencing things without explaining where they are from or stuff that you don't actually like and it's sort of exasperating.

    Sorry about that.

My comment about insanity was catalyzed by a comment on IJBM about how much craziness there was in this one series, such as throwing together a harem premise and high(?) school setting with an anti-terrorism backstory.  And I was reminded about how much people celebrate the crazy things that happen in anime -- like, an "OH MY GOD CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT REALLY HAPPENED???" thing, or a sort of memetic reference.  From what I've seen of how people enjoy, say, Bobobobo Bobobo to TTGL to Azumanga Daioh to Space Dandy, a number of people in the fandom (pardon me for referring to it as a bloc after dismissing that idea earlier) seem to revel in how absurd, strange, overdone, obnoxious, etc. the characters and events are.

I guess it's a matter of taste, since I seem to be a much bigger fan of drama and much less of anime comedy.  For reference, here's a list of some series I like (in alphabetical order) and why I think I like them:

    AKB0048 First Stage (political, music)
    Allison & Lillia (romance, political/intrigue/setting)
Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Ars Nova (drama, philosophy, music)
    Coppelion (drama, setting, artwork)
    Element Hunters (characterization, music)
    Eureka Seven (characterization, music)
Haruhi Suzumiya, The Melancholy of (mystery, drama)
Kiddy Grade (characterization, music, drama, political)
Lagrange: the Flower of Rin-ne (season 1) (narrative structure, music?)
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS (narrative structure, characterization)
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (drama)
Nodame Cantabile (still not sure yet but I seem to have enjoyed this, but I think it's comedy and characterization)
    Noir (drama.mystery, action, music)
    Rocket Girls (comedy)
Sky Girls (slice of life, music)
Stellvia of the Universe (drama, romance, slice of life, music)
Strain: Strategic Armored Infantry (drama, music)
    Stratos 4 (drama)
The iDOLM@STER (slice of life, music, a bit of drama)
    Time of Eve (philosophy, animation)
    Uta~Kata (drama, music, philosophy?)

a lot of drama, a lot of liking stuff for their soundtracks, some characterization, not much action or comedy.
  • I think that I used to think I liked action, but then realized that fight scenes and action sequences were generally not particularly well done and better imagined than strictly watched.  With the exception of particularly impressive ones where the characters do really cool things, such as in Noir.  (Popcorn, anyone?)
