The final boss is so amazingly cheeseable. Well, it might be cheese. Actually I'm not sure it's even possible to beat him without Earth Wall spam, but it sure makes things simple. The real boss of the run was Richard. Actually, the real boss of the run was the Ch. 2 dogs, followed closely by the Ch. 3 dogs in an unavoidable extermination quest with no extra party members. Anything dog-shaped in general, really.
You know what else makes things simple? Giving everyone Action 2-3, Cast 2, a quartz setup that lets everyone use Clock Up EX and White Gehenna, and giving Joshua Gladiator gear to spam his AOE S-Break on all the weak exploding minions.
I killed the final totally-not-a-cutscene form before it could even move.
And now, satisfied, I may begin the second game. If it's half as amazing as the first, I'll be happy.
I might hold off on Trails SC until people finish more reliable 100% guides. From what I hear it's even worse about obscure missables than the first game so I don't want to start and waste 40+ hours until that's a bit more of a sure thing.
I picked up FF7/FF8 a while back, so I might give those a spin.
Oh wow, I forgot how weirdly FF7 has aged. The combat is still good and the allowances for unexpected party changes are still a step above what most games these days do.
But when it gives you an interstitial pseudo-menu to swap out gear/materia the controls are different on every goddamn one. It's like the director told the programmers to make a pseudo-menu to do something neat and revolutionary, then told them to do it in a few other places as development went on, but it got done by a different dude every single time and nobody thought to ask "Hey Frank, this sounds familiar. Where's your code for the last one?"
Also the spellcasting sound is like a circle saw against a chalkboard. Which is bad, because half the fights hinge almost entirely around casting.
list of games I am currently looking forward to, written up for another website:
* Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night * Chasm * CrossCode * C-Wars * Eitr * fault milestone two side:below and the rest of the fault series * Frogatto and Friends (Steam release) * The Girl and the Robot (Steam release) * Heart Forth, Alicia * La-Mulana 2 * The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the Third (and Azure and Zero and PC releases of the Cold Steel games...) * Legend of Iya * Lunar series (on PC) (now if only we could get the Wild ARMs games on PC...) * Midora * Mighty No. 9 * Okkotos * Project Phoenix * Sora (just so that a proper localization of this exists) * Station (this game: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=295826111 ) * Tales of Symphonia (PC version) * Territoire * Timespinner
i dunno, i mean i haven't played it, but if the acting is bad and the story is bad that seems like reason enough to dislike something imo
you don't have to agree
i'm not going to debate this because like i said i haven't played it, just saying, y'know, Myr is not the type of person who dismisses stuff because it's experimental
