    Of course, it goes both ways: By marginalising a group for its interests, society encourages insularity and exclusivity in that group. Japanese society treats people with "immature" hobbies (however potentially otherwise well-adjusted) as freakish and pathetic; people with those hobbies respond by flaunting their immaturity in increasingly garish ways. It is a vicious cycle perpetuated by both sides.
