I gotta say I'm a bit underwhelmed. The aesthetic was great and some of the puzzles were clever, but it just felt too much like I was fighting the slippery-ass controls the entire way to be able to really enjoy it.
I mean for free it's a great waste of a few hours, but it didn't feel like it met the hype.
It's not even that. It's two completely separate jokes that got spliced together to fan the flames for no goddamn reason. It's not even stepping in the mudpie so much as people throwing poop.
FFS there have been like ten different Gate scandals around here in the last two years alone.
“As many have observed,” the company said in a statement, “when viewed in its entirety the Nintendo Treehouse: Live segment for Paper Mario: Color Splash from E3 includes two jokes separated by commentary and gameplay that have no relation to each other. One joke has to do with Watergate, while the other is a nod to the Fungi Fun Guys from Mario Party 8. It was brought to our attention today that these two jokes have been spliced together and misconstrued as a crude reference to an online hate campaign.”
I wonder if Gamergate is going to throw a fit about being called a hate campaign, or temporarily suspend their fake moral outrage to paint the SJeWs as alarmist.

I agree with this, though. It's like everyone forgot that Gamergate wasn't the origin of using -gate for scandals.
It's neither. That scandal is over two years old, since which I can name a rather large handful more gates that happened. More than a few of which have rather more pressing national implications.
Like, as far as I know the "five guys" thing wasn't even a particularly well-known thing outside of Gamergate's own conspiracy circles. It doesn't even show up in most articles describing the controversy.
I mean I can't really blame Quinn for being a hair trigger about it given what she went through, but...seriously.
FFS I didn't even remember "five guys" was part of that shitstorm until now. I was perfectly happy continuing to associate it with the burger joint down the block where my friend works.
There is no way in HELL NoA wasn't aware of the -gate suffix's most recent and relevant usage
They should've at least had the tact to recognize that nows not the time to make a gate joke in close proximity to a joke involving five guys
Nintendo is not really known for being "in" with the self-styled 'hardcore' crowd which is mostly what GG is made up of.
Intentional or not it's tactless
I mean, the localization team FIRED someone because of Gamergate. Or some subsidiary of it, idk. I'm sure that the people involved in the industry are aware of one of the biggest video game things to happen in a long time, come on
I just mean it's possible the "five guys" thing is not as well-known as one'd think even if Nintendo are familiar with Gamergate as an entity.
I'm not necessarily trying to defend them (they've done their fair share of questionable things in the past), but I'm just saying I could buy it being a genuine accident.
Yeah i think looking at the lines in the context of the game, this probably wasn't an intentional reference. A little unfortunate, sure, but idk if NoA pays enough attention to internet bs for this to be 'tactless'.
I don't think this is Nintendo's fault so much as the fault of kooky internet people connecting the (rather remote) dots in unforeseen and unintended ways

Look I'm saying that they literally fired someone for being the target of a harassment campaign; this shit intimately affects people whose jobs ARE video games so I'd imagine it's the kind of thing that crosses their desk.

Kooky Internet people including the most prominent victim of the harassment campaign, so
So it's understandable she reacted the way she did, especially if she initially just saw the screenshots out of context.
Ultimately there's no way of knowing but i do think it's a fair point that we actually got a pretty clear condemnation of GG out of this, by Nintendo, in describing them as a hate campaign.

Alison Rapp, former employee of Nintendo who was fired after some GGers publicized a thesis she wrote and a second as an escort (I think? It's been a while)
I'd like to see a more concerted effort from Nintendo to fix these kinds of issues rather than just vaguely condemning them
For example, active inclusion of minorities, better representation of women, not firing people for being victims of harassment campaigns
when did this happen and to whom
Alison Rapp. It was a few months ago. (It must have been shortly before Miitomo launched because I remember a bunch of people saying they were going to boycott Miitomo because of it.)

this is probably why this slipped under the radar; a loooooot of people don't seem to remember how Gamergate actually started
I mean, given that Mike Brown was murdered at around the same time I'm surprised I even remember it at all

The Prime trilogy is worth checking out, if you like the 2D games. They are not standard FPSes, they are very exploration-based.
depends what you consider recent i guess
If this game is secretly about abortion I haven't seen signs of it just yet
Did reunite some sesame seeds though
