Everything in the sub seemed... super flat and lifeless and just blah, like the translation team decided that getting the most accurate translation was much more important than getting something that felt right in English.
Like, the best example that really captures the difference IMO is at the very beginning of the first episode, where you get that sort of public announcement thing exhorting citizens to consume more.
In the sub, it was genuinely laughable, like something out of a really bad piece of Young Adult Teen Dystopia Fiction
Whereas in the dub, it was still maybe a bit on-the-nose, but it sounded like something that might actually be said by a real human being?
and in the sub, Re-L came across as a wholly self-absorbed twit with absolutely no other character traits
whereas in the dub, she seems much more like a ruminating, noir-ish protagonist (at least at first)
i'm not actually totally sure i understand that since kaworu's an angel and as he explains (?) part of their thing is being more or less unique
it's really weird that i ahven't seen this show in literal years... i'm not used to having to use the ol' long term memory
it's just a mental image of his brain in a computer, like with the Magi
Spoiler:
He's also a bit of an unusual specimen, seeing as his assumed form was determined by an infusion of human DNA somewhere down the line. Whose DNA is never answered, however, and may not actually be relevant, seeing as he's even less human than Rei in many ways.
FLCL spoke to me more than Eva did, but I suspect that's at least partially because I saw FLCL at the "right" time whereas I only saw Eva several years later.
At any rate, I'd give Eva + EoE about an 8 myself, maybe pushing it up to a 9 out of respect for the trails that the show and movie blazed.
Araki said that when he was writing Jonathan, Joseph, and Jotaro he always asked what these larger than life characters would do in this situation, but after a while writing Josuke felt like recalling what an old friend had done.
Today I learned that Flying Witch is a slice-of-life style show, with a nice non-wideface cuteness, plus witches obviously, and a cute girl that runs a ghost cafe, all taking place in the country instead of some Tokyo suburbs.

there are a few other people here who like JoJo's, Crystal and naney spring to mind
I enjoyed it, although it was kind of weird the level to which it it felt like it was just the game put on screen.

and bein all hey, this sequence resembles a certain description of Eden in the zohar
long time gone

I do feel that the two work together in concert and are necessary to watch together for a full experience, though.
