  I used to feel similarly about search suggestions when they were first implemented, until I realized how much typing they've saved me over the years. Which is more important on a fiddly touchscreen than on a real keyboard, admittedly.

  Suggestions are fine. I guess they seem vaguely creepy but like it's not like they wouldn't be tracking and statistics-ing everything you search for even if they didn't do suggestions.
  
  The other stuff though does bother me since it makes Google kind of useless for anything sufficiently obscure which apparently includes lots of things I want to search for.
