    Munch munch, chomp chomp...

the movie at the plasma place is not Morpheus fighting Ice Cube

    it's Paul Blart II

I... would rather watch that than the other movie you're referencing whose name escapes me.

Also, I feel you on that somewhat.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat

    it makes me want to

never mention another movie on this forum ever again

I think it's funny, I'll stop if it bothers you
  • My dreams exceed my real life

when someone mentions a piece of media, you do not need to weigh in every time as to whether or not you owned it in a fictional reality

    Yeah

See, that used to bother me, but I would feel hypocritical commenting on it because I bring my princess shtick into everything.

And you get to do that, I thought mine was okay...

    I'll go easier on it!

I just watched the video the Dare to be Stupid for the first time in, like, a while. It's from 1985, but it would have been right at home on early '90s Nick (may it rest in peace).

if I were in the Harry Potter universe

I still would not be going to a British boarding school

    *takes quiz*

    Hufflepuff.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by this but I don't remember Hufflepuff having much character in the books.

It's been years since I read them though, so whatever.

most of the Hufflepuff characters are just sort of blandly nice, or at best heroic without ever taking centre stage

Cedric Diggory was probably the most notable and developed Hufflepuff character, though not really typical of the House

then there was Zacharias Smith, who was a jerk, though that was very atypical

wait, if Dame Adorabelle's is a boarding school, does it have gender-neutral dorms?

I was wondering about this too.

I'm gonna lean toward yes...if Centralia is a country with gender-neutral bathrooms, it makes sense that our dorms wouldn't be gendered either.

centie have i ever told you how cool it is you've made up your own country and stuff and done worldbuilding for it because that's super neat

relatedly collaborative world building is fun and something i really want to do with a group of friends

that sounds like it could be fun

Centralia should have an Official Thrash Metal Day

Collaborative world building helps with ironing out my own messes, which is honestly one reason I'm happy Centie's letting me indulge in, quite frankly, some pretty serious details (no less operating in different spheres).

It really sucks when I can't give attention to it but want to, though.

    @Tach: Yes.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
I wonder if I shouldn't bring in my own world-building from Sutra Stories.
  • i was thinking we could start a new thing but eh

if other people want to do it I'll help

    i'm up for anything
also i'm entirely too amused that i just realized that 'i'm up for anything' and 'i'm down for anything' have the same meaning

no but really I'M UP FOR ANYTHING

I'm up for it but let's hold off for a bit because I would like to participate and I'm at work
  • I need to get back to world building the country for my novel. I've got ten nearly fully fleshed out towns and cities, with their sigils and colours sorted, but that's about it. >_>
  • meow meow meowtherfuckers
tbh i didn't expect people to actually be open to the idea and i'm terrible at organizing things so i really have no idea how i'd go about doing this
but if someone else wants to make a thread or something that'd be cool

  • I'd like to make a thread, but I'd like to wait until tomorrow if that's okay.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”

legit i wanted to ask the ravers for 5-meo-dipt, but like they're gonna hve some obscure nerd drug

Coil were apparently fans of 5-MeO-DMT, which is a very different chemical in terms of effect but I think similar in composition?

Unsolicited writing advice: Worldbuilding is almost always more compelling when it springs up naturally on the margins of a story rather than being the focus of it. Also readers have boundless capacity to accept inconsistency as long as the story itself is compelling. Don't focus so much on worldbuilding and just do your best to ensure that the stories within the world are good. The audience will do the rest.

  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I would still try to avoid inconsistency in details. Worldbuilding should be organic, yes, but being able to answer questions that you ask yourself and not confuse your own details is important.
  • Inconsistency can be a strength if it's natural enough. It's the heart of what makes The Elder Scrolls compelling.

    a-okay with me
  • But on the whole worldbuilding is a massive timesink and can be the writing equivalent of junk food if you're not careful. I don't necessarily know your situation with writing but if I had to guess you're probably in a good position to Write Your Damn Novel as it is, right now. You should at least try to see how much you can write if only to test out what does and doesn't work about your worldbuilding, because you never really know until you actually start Writing Your Damn Novel

we're worldbuilding as a game, not to write a book.
