You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Early 19th century US; attested 1834. In original use, often used to refer to pulling oneself over a fence, and implying that someone is attempting or has claimed some ludicrously far-fetched or impossible task. Presumably a variant on a traditional tall tale, as elaborated below. The shift in sense to a possible task appears to have developed in the early 20th century, and the use of the phrase to mean “a ludicrous task” continued into the 1920s.
Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
It's championing the ideals of independence and self-reliance but the fact is that a way of life that is truly independent and self-reliant requires you to go to the wilderness and never encounter another human being.

(1:07:34 AM) Nitya: i guess i could have it do both, but then downloads would probably plummet.

Good Lord, there have been so many deaths in the Sims 3.
First one of the children in my family burnt to death. Then a random stranger who happened to be on my lot died of old age. Then the husband of my family starved to death, followed by another son drowning.
