You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Lilo & Stitch is in many ways a departure from the studio's usual path: it was the personal vision of someone other than Walt or whatever honcho was running the studio at the time
Hell, they're even making her skinny in the Suicide Squad movie they're coming out with.
I understand Arrow doing it; the CW has no other purpose than to display pretty people. But honestly, Sony, this is your last chance to actually retain a loyal audience of nerds (instead of the disloyal hoi polloi who only watched Amazing Spiderman 2 because it was available). Why not go all the way?
It's still weird to me that when confronted with the rise of Marvel, all WB can seem to muster DC-wise, unless Batman is involved, is turd after turd
If Time Warner cared and/or WB didn't seem to have so much pull with corporate, DC would be its own unit of the company and it would have been house-cleaned
If they had just gotten an actress who's just slightly endomorphic, I might be able to deal with it. Just someone with short hair, a bit of weight on her and a permanent scowl on her face.
But look at her!
She's bleeding gorgeous!
The one time that you have reason to pick an actress who isn't drop dead, movie-star gorgeous, and you waste it!
And Amanda Waller was never meant to be pretty. She was pointedly ugly in some of her earlier work, and even most of the animated versions still use the heavyset version of her (including "Justice League", DC's most popular cartoon outside of BTAS).
And that's important for the same reason that diversity is important: we look at media and we see the world around us. A girl growing up in Zimbabwe will, if given only European books, write stories about pale children playing in the snow. And one of the things that media teaches us is that every single girl of importance needs to be pretty. Even the best female characters in modern films and TV shows are usually drop-dead gorgeous because that's how we pick our actresses. This is fine for girls who are confident in their appearances. But some girls aren't. Some girls will never be considered pretty by the world. Amanda Waller speaks to those girls. She says "you don't need to be beautiful. Just become so badass that you can go head-to-head with an god." And if DC has its way, she'll never be able to say that again.
