Meter is the tempo of a poem. Typical western meter is determined by two things: how syllable stresses are arranged in a metric foot, and how many feet are in a line.
Iambic pentameter, for example, consists if five iambs, which consist of two syllables as so: stressed-unstressed

i know, i was making some sort of joke that doesn't make sense now that i read it back
like, it would have taken one class period in ANY english class throughout the years and it would have made my reading life so much better but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
What is it about the wack side of the MLP fandom that attracts so many racists who, like, freak out anytime humanized ponies are depicted as having skin that's anything but white?
The following was found in a youtube comment from a user named ASmrtOtaku:
There once lived a good fair knight, Who lived her life fighting the good fight, But she herself had failed to see, The tragedy that was meant to be,
Oh whoa is she who fought so hard, Living her life broken and scarred, Only to suffer the worst of fates, Becoming the thing that she most hates...
fix the "Oh whoa" to "O woe" and we have an excellent little poem here.
It's an okay little limerick. Doesn't quite flow properly, and it doesn't have the nice flourish at the end that makes limericks fun. Not really amazing.
I got an English textbook senior year that was just short stories and poems all the way through.
That's actually where I learned about Orozco's "Orientation". And Ai's "Conversation". Most of my current favorites, tbh.
We also had it taught in class. I remember because we interpreted one Atwood poem (apologies, I know you're not fond of her) and i got it completely wrong.
See I barely know anything about poetry and I know that's sub-standard.
Read my meter post. It's a good start! Then look up other meter styles, like trochaic and anapestic. Then rhyme schemes like AABA. Once you know some of the mechanics, I can direct you to some poems.
Or you can dive into the more modern stuff, which is more assonance and imagery.
Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Yarrun: That's the infamous "Shi" poem. Every word there is pronounced "Shi", but each is distinguished by the other with by stressing different sounds.

I learned a simple version in primary school.
Oh, I remember that.
It looks more sensible here than the English transliteration.

This is terrifying if you are parsley.
Otherwise, wow. That was surprisingly inspiring.

Not a bad start though. Some more specific imagery and something resembling a proper meter, and we might have something here

Let me tell you, white supremacists are not good at creating art above a third - grade level
he also had a white, blue eyed kitten fursona that was pretty adorbs
but other than that yeah it's amazing just how bad white supremacists are at artistic expression in general

^ Oh, and my education focused on English styles. Besides the Petrarch sonnet and haiku, I don't know a lot about stuff not written in English.
