Glenn, I get a similar impression (as when, for instance, he seemed to believe the principles of the entirety of feminism were dictated by its roots in Enlightenment liberalism), but I don't think he's the only one who does that.
It's just jarring because he states it explicitly and takes it to extremes beyond what most people do.
I got Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics from a secret Santa.
I keep putting them off, and I feel bad about it because the gift-giver still technically has me on Steam, but my computer really doesn't like Fallout 1.

No. I'm pretty sure if you bought up that much of a stake in their company, they'd want you to sell it all so as to eliminate your leverage over them.
Also, the goal of stock trading is to buy low and sell high. Holding onto stock gives you leverage, depending on your position (people called corporate raiders - or, more benignly, activist shareholders - buy up lots of stock in companies and make demands of them, but they're much richer than you or I), but selling it can net you a profit or a loss on your investment, and a loss of influence over them.

You know Ike Perlmutter, the CEO of Marvel? He used to be a corporate raider, back in the '80s, when they had more power (like, enough to grab up giant corporations in their entirety!) than they do now.

For a recent example of activist shareholding: Last year, Daniel Loeb made it public that he owned a big stake in Sony and demanded that they spin off Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony Music Entertainment, and their half of Sony/ATV Music Publishing into a new, publicly-traded company. Sony's CEO Kazuo Hirai rebuffed him, but he did say that Loeb called attention to problems at SPE. So they started hacking at it, laying people off and cutting costs (they're moving Sony Pictures Imageworks to Vancouver, where there are tax incentives for animation work), which they are still doing.

Why would you burn stock? If you're going to spend three billion dollars on something that could potentially net you and the other money pool contributors a profit (even if it is Monsanto stock), why burn it?
Random fun fact: One of the guys I worked with at the Recording Studio I interned at knew Steve Morse when he was in middle school/early high school and apparently he was a beast on guitar even in middle school.

well if the idea is to make a statement then profit is not a goal.
