  • That said, I actually get along pretty well with Barkey of all people
    u mean mr homophobic shitstain
He is definitely transphobic, among other things, but a homophobe... not quite. I had a few conversations with him on BtL, and he was surprisingly articulate, cordial and straightforward. That said, he is one of the most gleeful trolls that I have ever met.
none of those things really excuse that he's both a douche and unpleasant to be around in general.

I always thought Teufel Hunden seemed like a good fellow, for a military type

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
^^^^ He plays it up around people that he knows will be offended or annoyed by it. When you actually talk to him seriously, his views are a lot more nuanced than that. I cannot say the same of the likes of Martello, however.

^^ He's actually a pretty decent fellow all around, but I don't see much of him anywhere anymore.

I know. If anything, it makes it worse.

    Ah yeah, Tuefel was alright

I admit, I kind of liked Forsythe when he wasn't being an ass

    I enjoyed Forsythe's webcomic

Which seems to have disappeared from the interwebs

Yeah, me too. I just don't know if it balanced out his smugness.
  • Forsythe was interesting to talk to when you were nowhere near the political sphere of things.

Honestly that holds true for a lot of these people, but that just goes to show that idiots exist in all spheres of interest.

I liked reading his posts, relatively often. And yes, Tuefel was a cool guy.

I give people chances to redeem themselves by treating them politely and fairly. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.

  • I generally treat people how they treat me. If that's "poorly", well, then that's on them.
  • I really wish freeindiegam.es would stop devoting so much of their server space to shitty Twine stories.

So my body is still adjusting to my increased risperidone dose, which makes me sleepier than usual and is going to make it pretty much impossible to "fix" my sleep patterns for at least a few more days

(As for why it's taking so long: because the doctor wanted me to gradually increase the dose, not do it all at once)

In the meantime I developed a weird sort of coping strategy in that, when I feel I probably won't make it without falling asleep at least once during the night, I go and move to the couch instead of stay at my desk. It won't keep me awake, but at least I'll be sleeping somewhere relatively comfortable.

I was never in a position where he treated me poorly; to the contrary, I had barely interacted with the man before that point. The interesting thing is that he was already disliked by most of the other members of the site when he joined—he was unaware of BtL's history and essentially walked into the lion's den blind. Ironically, he appreciated their directness and decided to speak plainly, revealing himself to be significantly less of a twit than he had seemed.

Mutual respect is an extremely strange thing.

It's unlikely to surprise you that I find that extremely difficult to believe. Even if it were, pretending to be a homophobic douchebag because you think it's funny is not really any different than actually being one.

as for respect, I respect very few people.

It is not so much because he thought that it was funny as that he had slowly grown sick of people reacting to any sarcastic statement that he made as literal. Eventually it came to the point where he preferred to exaggerate his opinions in a blatantly offensive manner to get a rise out of the people that had missed the joke in the first place to attempting to speak his mind plainly and directly. That OTC is very doublespeak-ish in the first place only encouraged him to troll people harder.

I do not agree with it, but I do understand the temptation very well.

Also, considering his history in the military, I don't find "walking into the lion's den" to be very apt.

Eventually it came to the point where he preferred to exaggerate his opinions in a blatantly offensive manner to get a rise out of the people that had missed the joke

I get the temptation, but that's still nothing more than adding fuel to the fire with pointless and faux-hateful (though, basically hateful) comments. A troll that lies about what they're saying is still trolling.

That really only goes to further reinforce my notion of him as a jackass and OTC as a very stupid place.

I'm referring to comments I recall him making what are years ago now, though. Not anything even remotely recent.

I wonder what Princess Luna does all night.

Equestria doesn't seem to have many night owls...who does she hang out with?
She hangs around loitering in people's dreams.

    Also, Berry Punch.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
And the last time that I talked to him was probably over a year ago at this point, so I'm not exactly talking about recent history here. But yes, OTC is a very stupid place.

I think that I worded that poorly, but the point stands that his welcome was... not warm.

I never said that I approved. I simply said that I was able to have a reasonable conversation with the man.

  • Being civil and polite to someone isn't the same as wanting to be associated with them, or even have an extended conversation with them.

If I saw Barkey on the street and somehow knew it was him and could rage-yell at him for thirty minutes with no consequences, I wouldn't do it, but I also wouldn't want to have a half hour discussion on the finer points of civil rights with him. There'd be no point and I wouldn't learn anything from it or enjoy it.

Making it NOT a half an hour on the finer points of civil rights, really.

    Right.

Yes, my comment was more about how I didn't care for that in the past, even if he was much different over at BtL.

But by the same token, you have a much stronger capacity for hatred than I do.

Maybe! But you know, perhaps some things deserve to be hated. Perhaps if you see many of your friends and family stepped upon by the boot of a system, your natural reaction may be to hate the person wearing the boot.

On the other hand, maybe I don't hate very many things at all and just sound like I do because saying you dislike something invites much fewer negative reactions than saying you don't care about it.
  • Who is everyone talking about?

  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I never really noticed when Barkey was doing something rude, since I didn't see much of him. (I was far more likely to notice the mods or some of the more notorious blowhards *cough*Major Tom*cough* making asses of themselves, since they did it so much. :P)

Also, Mojave, the quites acting up is due to some weird interaction between Chrome and the WYSIWYG editor. I haven't figured out why yet, but it has a bad habit of inserting some CSS that kills the formatting dead when you use bold or italics in your response.

The former I can understand; the latter...

Mo, when you say you don't like or don't care about something, the way that you say it tends to imply that you resent that anyone would ever like or care about that thing. If someone acted the same way about things that you liked, I think that you would be pretty miffed yourself.
