I guess it would be more accurate to say it's kinda overwhelming. You can just be walking down a street that would fit in a town, then suddenly, gigantic shopping center. Which has its own pub. And is next to the (surprisingly nondescript) Europe/Middle East/Africa branch of Disney.

Jesus christ I hate Lunatic mode so much and f*ck it for existing and I am going to pretend that it doesn't exist because I am so sick of playing it and then spending 20 minutes doing everything right and getting clipped by a stray pixel and then AAAAAAAAAAA OH NO there goes like 4 freaking bombs that I had saved up to use on a boss now I have to start over and also fuck you.

I should get back to programming since I kind of figured out how to program a menu in idle thought. It will be inefficient because I suck but it will work. *my* game will not have this unending frustration. Deathbombing will be a thing and it will be more than a 5 - 15 frame opportunity. Getting hit will not empty your entire weapon stock and then stick the game's middle finger in your face. There will not be bomb items because I hate those and the whole "omg I'm about to die and should I waste this very finite resource or not to avoid having to gamble with my life" thing will not be a thing because I hate that, a lot.

I love the way that Siter Skain handles this: the "bomb" mechanic is just not a thing at all, removing the frustration and gambling and "all-or-nothing" mentality. The player uses skill to avoid being hit, and if they are not good enough, they get hit (there is no invincibility thing), but it is not ZOMG THE END OF THE WORLD because you can sustain more than 3 - 4 hits without getting a game over.
Well except for this. Pictured above: the last ~15 minutes of RefleX, in which touching a single thing causes the entire run to literally explode and die and rub salt in your open wounds. That is unforgivable, especially since the game is like an hour long.
