I should probably add for posterity that I like a handful of Nickleback songs. Mostly their older stuff and one of their popular songs that wasn't directly about sex and/or rape.

There's potentially a backlash against how intellectually vapid the contents of a song is. I'm not necessarily saying songs HAVE to have deep meanings, but Smooth and a sizable portion of the Nickleback songs aren't exactly electing much in the way of thought or emotion.

I'm would say the lions share of say, The Foo Fighters', Nirvana's, and Stone Temple Pilots, probably have a bit more going for them then the average Nickleback song.

Not saying there lighting the world on fire with their intellectual contributions, but most Nickleback songs that make it to the radio seem to be trying to convey the message that "Sex is GOOD!" It's not that surprising people give them a hard time over it.

I only know of one Nickelback song that's about sex (Rockstar), the others I can name off the top of my head are mostly about reminiscing on stuff (Photographs) or being emotionally fragile (I believe this one's called "Bottle"? I forget)

NT has been around since 2005, it seems. But I don't think it's until a couple years ago anyone thought their music was worth putting on the radio.
