    OK.

Admittedly, i actually don't know why anyone followed him to begin with.

But he is someone who i've heard a lot about from when he's been brought up here, on TVT and on IJBM, and this news is surprising.  You don't think it's surprising?  i was not expecting this to happen.

    That is all.

I just remembered something: I was watching Transformers Prime the other night, because Mom wanted to show me how OTT it was (too violent for a 3-year-old), and apparently Transformers have troll blood...

Today I learned that in Pokemon games, the shininess (or lack thereof) of an egg is set when it is created.  IN other words, if you are one step from an egg hatching, and then you
    1.save your game
    2. walk one step
    3. watch the egg hatch
    4. if it is not a shiny, turn off the gameboy/ds/computer/thing and turn it back on, get into the game, and take that one step again.

Will never work.  It will always be a non-shiny, its non-shiny-ness was set when it was created.

So, instead of a one in eight thousand something chance per hatching, it's one in eight thousand something per egg..  Or, in other words, you need four thousand something eggs, and in those eggs, there is a fifty percent chance that one (or more) of them is a shiny.  Four thousand something eggs, basically a coin flip.

So, yeah, it's very possible to get tails five times in a row.  Or, in other words, it's possible that you could hatch over 32 thousand different eggs and never once get a shiny (although odds are you would get four shinies).

Onm the plus side, you would have over thirty two thousand BIDOOFS

if the fraction of the time an egg is shiny is x, the chance of getting no shinies in y eggs is (1 - x)^y.

    For 4000 eggs and x = 1/8000, that's actually about 60%. so worse than a coin flip.

for 32k eggs it's a 1.8% chance of no shinies. kinda unlikely, still plausible of course.

@Aliroz Shininess isn't exactly set when an egg is created in gen VI games, though. Resetting definitely won't work, still, but it isn't just shiny vs non-shiny.

In 6th gen games, each egg was assigned a "shiny value" and every trainer had a "trainer value." If those two values matched, the egg would be shiny. For a while there was an exploit where people could check their eggs' shiny values and find out their trainer values - so people could trade for eggs that, when hatched by them, would be a guaranteed shiny. You could also check IVs that way. It was patched, though, and people can't do it any more.

Either way, doesn't help your problem, but I thought it was interesting.

  • *hugs*

Thank you. I'm really depressed right now, and it took a Cyanide and Happiness comic to finally tip me over the edge.

Anyways, in all my time of Soulsilver, I have seen only one shiny:  A spearow.  I caught it.  And named it after Shichibukai (I named my starter after Yarrun).

Anyways, I was going to talk about a great movie, in the same way that The Iron Giant, Crybaby Lane, Explorers, Flight of the Navigator, and Road to El Dorado were great movies; and how it was equal parts guilty pleasure and actual pleasure for me and how it was great on many levels, but... but, well, I'm scared you guys would point out some terrible flaw in it that would make it the worst movie, that would make it not worth liking.

    So, no.

You guys don't get to touch the things I love.

There is something I could be doing. It is called scoring. I could be scoring points. It's hard though and I'm stupidly lazy.

OKay, okay, I love you guys.

    It's Earth To Echo.

Basically, it's Goonies plus Explorers, starring Wall*E, done by the cameraman from Cloverfield.

But I can't talk about The Lone Ranger because Crackers hates it

And if I talk about my religion I risk bringing up, if not bad memories for Lee, a conversation that will end badly with Lee.

HEY GUYS EARTH TO ECHO IS A GOOD MOVIE AND YOU SHOULD THROW MONEY AT EVERYONE INVOLVED IN IT.
