I guess I'm just thinking about SPM's version of the afterlife: The Underwhere is based on the Asphodel Meadows (and contains the River Twygz, which is full of skeletal hands and creepy music), and The Overthere is based on Heaven.

This is gonna sound silly, but which version of Heaven?

    ...the Christian version?

The lower part, the Overthere Stair, has a bunch of trees that give various apples (one of which put Peach into a sleep from which she may only be awoken by eating the most bitter fruit, the Black Apple).

Sometimes I wonder if our culture's most common depiction of Heaven (people in white robes with wings sitting around on clouds all day) is literally what most people believe, or just something people continue to use because it's a convenient shorthand for a much more abstract concept.

I don't think I believe in Heaven, personally, but I might believe in Nirvana.

    Hopefully a shorthand

Frankly, I don't think that kind of Heaven is worth believing in. How dull.

    Even Truant's version is better
  • Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
It's hard to say whether people in general believe in the stereotypical "all dogs go to fluffy cloud heaven" without going around asking what everyone thinks the afterlife is going to be like. And if anyone actually manages to do that, props to them.

Personally, I'd like there to be an afterlife, but I don't think I (or anyone else as far as we know) can really say for sure what it would be like. We just have to choose something to believe in if we believe in an afterlife. Of course, I say this even though I've never exactly been the most spiritually-inclined person.

Is there anyone here who has had the experience of enlightenment or who understands Buddha's teaching on the enlightened level? I do not know. I have not. I haven't had the actual experiences of enlightenment.

Let me tell you a little story:

One day a mother frog returned from the shore to the water and began to tell her little tadpoles, who had never been out of the water, about the warm sunshine and the gentle breeze and how wonderful they felt. The tadpoles couldn't understand their mother and asked her to explain. The mother frog tried every possible way to describe her experience, but it was to no avail. Not until one day when the tadpoles had grown their legs and jumped out of the water onto the land did they discover: "Oh, that is what our mother meant!"

So, the little bit I'm telling you today to introduce you to the enlightened level should be treated as one tadpole to another repeating the mother frog's story about the warm sunshine and the gentle breeze she experienced on the land.

I get like that too. It's actually kinda nice cause you get to go back and enjoy your work.

Although, usually when I'm working on something it's more like "Oh Jesus, what the fuck am I doing with my life. Does anyone care that I moved Nepita's pupil three pixels to the right to make it look like she's actually looking at Sollux?"

Then when I go back it's all like "Dave waking up Terezi in the middle of the night to go slip and sliding because of reckless endangerment of everyone on the asteroid? O must have been taking awesome pills when I wrote that."
