As I understand it, it's not so much forums en banc vs. Wiki as it is that some of the busiest parts of the Forums (specifically RP and FG) have almost nothing to do with the Wiki or even other parts of the Forums in some cases. YF still has several people who edit in it, as do the media boards (I think).
lee: I know it does. We have pages that are works of some of the Roleplays. But the whining that comes from the forums due to the cuts(and not much whining from wiki editors in comparison) will do nothing better than make the forum look bad. FE threatened us to cool it and act mature on the forums or they'll be cut. Not surprised, really. We do get a lot of crap on it, like in OTC, and so on.
Imi: I completely agree. That's why I don't like the concept of overcutting. I can't actually see any reason why works like Kodomo No Jikan are worth keeping up there, though. It's a legitimate work, yes, but it's still creepy as hell and pro-pedo. But that's not even what FE wants gone. Just pedo-works that actually show or describe the sexual content. His policy could change on that. Who knows?

Imi: Good point. Even Wikipedia has found a way to catalog offensive subjects without getting too many nasty letters or death threats. That and everyone has a pet peeve. Everyone. Someone may decide you're a minion of Satan because you use Times New Roman too much or you have an article on Detroit. There's no way to predict these things. Pedophilia is considered as bad as cannibalism or being an open Nazi, but Wikipedia still catalogs it because it's still a thing, and cataloging things is what Wikipedia does.
And really, humans are not all sweetness and light. We've done great things, we've done horrible things, and we've come to an understanding that ignoring our own history is a great way of repeating the same mistakes over and over. Documenting the bad does not condone it; it serves as a warning. :P
Now, does that mean TVT has to do it? No, of course not. But it does make it look somewhat half-assed if they can't catalog certain things because they're afraid of either advertisers pulling their funding, or trolls embarrassing the editors or making the site unusable. Wikipedia has had ways to deal with all this crap for years now. It'd be wise to take some lessons from them.
Irene: Yeah, OTC in particular is still kind of a black hole of name-calling and bad debate tactics. I mean, I've seen better debates on Usenet, where there were no mods and nothing to stop a wonderposter from starting a hundred-post-long "Fuckhead" cascade. Also, it seems like when anyone gets banned these days, all hell breaks loose.
lee: Indeed. Not that everybody banned didn't completely deserve it. Some should be let back, though. As for OTC in general, atleast one person who caused drama finally got the banhammer. Well, from the entire forums, anyway. And I'm sure others will do that too if they go too far.
