You know, Century Gothic strikes me as more reminiscent of ITC Avant Garde Gothic than Twentieth Century:

Of course, if we are looking at it solely from an ethical point of view, I'm probably in the clear anyway since I'm using the free knock-off fonts only for my own "hobbyist" use. If I were actually intending to design something and make money off it I'd spring for the real thing.

Would Avant Garde and/or a knockoff even look good in a grocery store? The only real concept I've pictures so far seems very much like a generic '90s grocery store, I think.

I associate it with stores trying to seem upscale. The only chain that can pull it off, to me, is Safeway, maybe because they tie it in with their corporate brand by slathering Frutiger on their stores' signage and such.

Michael Jacobs Productions's logo is vaguely unsettling to me. Perhaps it's the combination of the serene music and "strict disciplinarian" Garalde typeface used for "Michael Jacobs":
