  What was 3 about? About the only thing I got from Dissidia about that game was that you make a class-based group and go off to fight The Cloud of Darkness, was there more to it. The Main Char is Onion Knight from what I knew.

  I like analysing stuff.  Like, seriously, it's kind of a bad habit I guess.  Ask me what I think of most things and I'm liable to go off on an overly-lengthy analysis.
  
  I don't think it has to be serious business, but I can sympathise with that much, at least.

  Light business and serious business are two completely different things.
  
  Enhancing and filling in information not provided on the show and sharing it with other fans is light business. Debating fanon, arguing about character interpretations and the outside fan-based information provided is serious business and is sadly, unwarranted.
  
  There's nothing wrong with expanding on the pony universe. Bursting a vein or getting into hemorrhoid-spawning arguments about how you think the show is portrayed, isn't fun and should be avoided.

  OK, yeah, arguing about it is going too far.
  
  It's like with shipping.  It's fun if it's just speculation, but it becomes obnoxious when you start flaming people for supporting the wrong ships, or whining about whether or not they're canon.

  Which reminds me.
  
  I had a moment where I became one of those...rabid shippers.
  
  It was on a Higurashi review when people were debating about who would be the ideal girl for Keiichi, and people were suggesting Mion, Rena, Satoko, Rika etc. and somebody suggested Shion. I got into an argument about how Shion was in love with Satoshi and how that would go against everything she desired for him and her, and how Mion is the one who does infact have her heart set on Keiichi and how in the OVAs Rena, Satoko and Rika were generally okay with this even though Rika did hold some contempt against Mion/Shion for having larger breasts and beyond all that her and Keiichi went through emotionally and how Keiichi pretty much broke her out of her eternal hell in the show, that she still wasn't old enough in real-time to be anything more than the younger friend.
  
  It was the weirdest feeling I tell you. Although the other girl WAS going apeshit I found it fun to discuss and challenge pairings with one I believed was correct, well, as correct as a fanon opinion could be.

  ...you know, it's weird; even though I have had fondness of both threads at some point, the MSPA and WA MLP:FIM threads seem to be the only media threads I've had problems with. (I hear that Manga & Anime and New Media are problem boards, but I seldom go to either; the one NM thread I had on my watchlist, the Pony Fanfiction Thread, has since been moved to the Fan Fiction forum.)
  
  ^In the case of the Trixie argument it was a stupidly long-winded discussion. Most of the WA MLP:FIM thread people are pretty cool-headed.

  I do use "arguing" to mean discussion sometimes so I guess it wasn't clear, but yeah, I meant bitching and flaming.  Or just taking it way too seriously and going on about it for way too long when it's clearly not that big a deal, which is no better really.

  The thing is, I don't understand why a prolongated discussion is bad, even if the subject's inane and unimportant if it's being discussed civilly.

  @Anonus Well, thanks.  Hopefully we'll see some real improvement soon.
  
  (I'd like to be able to say it was a lesson learned, but OTC was making less work than IJBM and more OTC posters actually edit, which is probably the real reason.)
  
  @Juan When nobody's making new arguments and it goes around in circles and takes over the thread because one or more party cannot take "we fundamentally disagree on this" for an answer.

  Strangely, though the contrast in treatments dealt to IJBM and OTC used to irritate me, I still kind of see IJBM's shutdown as a sort of blessing, though admittedly for the selfish reason that it took away a lot of my motivation to act like an idiot.

  I was reading YF just now after a few days of ignoring it, and wow, I feel like I've lost a few brain cells. The biggest problem I have with it is that all the problems people have, all the things people talk about seem so...immature, like most of the posters are still in high school and don't have any real life experience yet. 

  
  

  I guess that's why it's gone downhill so much. Not to say that teenagers are all idiots, because they're not, but it seem like there's more normal teenagers with normal teenager problems -- something that seems rather quaint when you're in your 20s or 30s and have moved on from that. On top of that, a lot of the original crew from 2008-2009 were in their late teens or early twenties, and with a few exceptions, had few problems with their lives and didn't constantly want or need attention.

  
  

  OTC is actually improving somewhat. While I still don't care much for the topics, the discussion at least is quite a bit more civil and there's fewer instances of palookas and spotlight-seekers hijacking threads.

  Yeah, that's where I was going with that. I know I've decried the lack of older people (i.e. "older than 21") on TVT before, but it seems like most 20somethings and above aren't really interested (and if they are, it's because they found the site years ago and never left).

  As early as 2010 I noticed that people over the age of 25 didn't seem common, at least around the boards I was frequenting at the time (Yack Fest, It Just Bugs Me!, It Just Awes Me! and Forum Games).

  Well, I guess what puts me off is the constant "I'm so lonesome I need an SO because _____" whining from certain people. I know, I used to do that myself, but I learned that compromise and understanding really does help. 

  
  

  That and it seems like the FOREVER ALONE types drown out people with more serious problems (Haldo, Cute, Tendo, etc.)

  Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."

  For me, romance would be a nice thing to have, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if I didn't get it. And anyway, I know I need a lot more skill and experience before I start a relationship like that.

  
  

  I'm just happy to have a nice, welcoming circle of friends in meatspace. And it's looking like I might eventually have one here too, so that's another plus.
