She'll be growing up with some Muslim and Christian influences, there's pretty much nothing we can do to change that aside from shout "BUT WE WANT YOU TO MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS ABOUT THIS STUFF" every time Friday and I talk religion, which we won't, because that idea is dumb. I'm also pretty heavily steeped into the "miscellaneous" side of things, but who knows how that will manifest.
Neither of us really attend a place of worship on a regular basis and I wasn't really planning on taking her to church regularly, either. Church is...mostly pretty boring to a kid anyway.
Though, I guess a Sunday school or something could be more interesting to her.
On the other hand, Friday has expressed interest in her attending a religious based private school, mostly because her most positive school experiences where at a Catholic school (funnily enough, some of her worse where probably with a Muslim school). I'm certainly not opposed to this idea, but I'd probably keep a close eye on her study so I can help explain some of what she's learned or provide alternative point of views.
Though, I'll be doing that with anything secular she would learn, anyhow.

I guess I should add that I'm a big proponent of providing a developing child with lots of knowledge and options on stuff, but only to a point.
A child is, after all, a child, and isn't always equipped to make heady decisions. I think it's also understandable and perhaps expected of parents to raise kids in a way that they think is best for the child.
I know those are sort of two conflicting viewpoints, but obviously, the goal is to hit somewhere in the middle of giving a child lots of ideas to work with but making sure the ideas they pick are things that aren't going to be detrimental...I mean, I'm not sure I could really abide my daughter becoming an antinatalist or whathaveyou.

I just finished reading and explaining this book to my five month old daughter:
Captain Calamari spent several pages looking for treasure, but finding only shiny sea animals. I had to explain to Lain that these where not treasure, because he is really looking for precious metals and gemstones. Things of great value to the world economy.
Spoiler alert: He finds treasure, but the last page is a mirror in which it explains that the treasure he was looking for was my baby that is in an undersea cave...I'm not sure books about squids that are on the look out for drowned baby corpses is really age appropriate for my daughter.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
"Captain Calamari" is kind of a morbid name for a squid, no? It's like if there was a human named "Corporal Corpse."

Obviously, I am paying NO attention to Chrome's alternative suggestions for misspelled words, right now, because I actually signed off on that being correct...

I have a personal question to ask you.
Have you considered the matter of your daughters faith yet?

She also needs that Appa. That would be a joyous thing to possess.

Y'know I hope for your sake that Lainey never sees the show she's sort-of named after. I can't imagine much good coming out of that.

Seeing that question, I feel the compulsion to say that If I ever were to had a baby, I'd try to raise them in a religion I know nothing about!

Mission Accomplished. It looks just like a mini-Appa.
