I finally got around to watching the AT4W review of Act 1. It...wasn't that bad at all. I noticed Lewis was a bit upset about how long the chat logs were, and how blinky some of the graphics could get, but he didn't have problems with the pacing or characterization. It kind of reminds me of the Cinema Snob episodes where Brad is Snobbing a movie he genuinely likes.
I'm trying to find this one piece of Rosemary artwork I used as my phone wallpaper a long time ago (because you wouldn't even know it was Homestuck unless you were Already In since it was just holding hands) and failing. But now I have discovered that there is, in fact, extant Rosemary fanart I have not yet seen, even after all these years. So that's exciting.
Also, if there's any of the zodiac who has call to be aromantic/ace, it's virgo, and, well, Kanaya's whole Chastity Modus and her virgin mother Lusus based apparently on a Virgin Tiger Moth, it just seems quite unsatisfying, symbolism-wise.
I can get on board with ace Kanaya. Aromantic Kanaya doesn't really make sense, although I bet after a particularly heated feels jam Karkat has said "KANAYA, I AM OFFICIALLY REVOKING YOUR ROMANTIC INCLINATIONS BECAUSE THEY ARE UNIVERSALLY RESERVED FOR ABSOLUTE TRAINWRECKS OF WOMEN" to which she replies "Goodness I Suppose My New Absolute Disinterest In Romance Means Your Movie Night Attendance Has Dropped To One" and he panics and relents before realizing that didn't necessarily follow.
hmmm so I guess Caliborn's 'masterpiece' and [S] MSPA Reader: Mental Breakdown were (together) Homestuck's LADDER TO HELL, and everything involved with bringing Vriska back was its Sepulchritude.
Running commentary on Homestuck, attempting to unpack its themes and character development. I haven't finished it yet (I'm at the beginning of Act 5 now) but it's pretty interesting so far. The person who linked it to me says it hasn't been updated since "Cascade", so it's also rather incomplete. Still: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_YbdpWDR44yZlJtTEJyOWFMR3M/edit?pref=2&pli=1
...honestly, I don't even feel like watching it. the part of me that likes homestuck apparently died at some point in the last half-year.

I have been meaning to read the whole thing again after the ending went up, and I certainly will in time, I'm just not sure when. I'm sad that you're not so enthused.
If I reread the whole thing from the beginning, I'd probably feel more inclined towards it. It's just that my freshest memories are of the whole post-retcon bit, and I just feel like Hussie was tired of the whole thing and his exhaustion bled through the whole thing.

To be fair, it was devilishly clever and completely insane, which is in keeping. But that's also the last point I was at when I was reading, sooooooo.
Also, you were a serial reader for much, *much* longer than I was, and in retrospect, I feel like reading it straight through winds up being a much more rewarding experience overall? I can imagine certain arcs feeling like the most tedious extension of a single joke when one cannot simply blaze through them in one sitting, and that accumulated level of frustration seems trying.

Oh yeah, the actual process of it happening was pretty great! It's just that everything after it was lackluster. Also, bringing original flavor Vriska back as the one true savior of the plot bugged the hell out of me.

I did not get to that part. Hmmm. I'll just have to see where he takes that detail in the end.
Still have no idea what the fuck Sollux is doing, and I only found out about the delightfully surreal genderfuckery that is the Nepeta situation out of context, so that's something.
No, I mean like. The comic ending in general. I was fully caught up when they pulled out at the last big flash. Now we're really at the epilogue and I really don't know what to do with myself.

Light up a cigarette, metaphorically or otherwise, sit at a window and watch the world go by as the credits roll
I think the ending is perfectly in keeping with the kind of storytelling Homestuck has, to be honest. I mean, Hussie tied up the clusterfuck of Acts 1-5 in thirteen minutes. And tied up most of the story after that with Collide. Clearly there's thematic intent with leaving it so open at the end.

i think it would have been interesting if when the characters started talking to one another face to face, that had been different
like if it had turned out that John was surprisingly articulate in person, or Rose had a weird accent or something.

anyway re: credits i only just realized that only the reader and caliborn actually know how the final climatic claymation battle is gonna go
so that's kind of weird for john et al

Again, I've been waiting for the stars to be right and the epilogue to come out—which apparently it just did?
not that anything in it is remotely surprising
