I can see what Hussie meant when he said Dirk's quest would be difficult...he has to get help from two of the biggest obstructive bureaucrats in the story. :P
I think there are some things that can be criticized objectively; Hussie's tendency to use characters as tools rather than write them as people (see: the unimportant trolls) and the way he constantly shoots down dramatic tension.
I don't agree about either of those. The former in particular. Very rarely does it seem to me that characters are doing something because the plot demands it; in fact, I'd argue that Homestuck is very character driven, with an honestly pretty loose plot.
Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.

This too is subjective. Some writers focus entirely on plot with character being secondary, and that's fine; some readers prefer that too.
Some folks also like to release the dramatic tension as soon as it's built up (folks apparently like Joss Whedon). That's fine too.

As Kraken stated, those are not really objectively bad, as the latter in particular is very intentional, although I think the former is worthier of criticism than more purely subjective statements like, "I dislike [character]."
For the record, I enjoy ARquius... although some strange part of me wants him to explode solely for the purpose of seeing the ghosts of Equius and Robot Dirk go on ridiculous adventures in the afterlife.
Not a fan of Autoresponder. Equius is my favorite character, and while I'm aware that he was always kind of a joke, at least he was a joke with some interesting stuff going beneath the surface.
Arquius is just endless one-note jokes, and it kinda feels like Hussie looking down on Equius fans. That probably isn't what he meant to do, but it feels that way.
Having my favorite character tacked onto a bunch of dudebro crap is just a disservice.
What is dudebro?
Anyways, Equius is one of my favorite, of not my favorite character, and I also hate auto-responder.
The obsession with muscles was always part of Equius's character though, as well as being creepy as hell (see: the "fine art" he was obsessed with, and the poem he recited to Dave). The main difference with ARquius is that he's not as hemospectrum-obsessed.
Equius was obsessed with muscles and being strong and Alternian art, but he didn't exactly throw all that out for the world to see. He had to be encouraged to show off his creepy poetry.
Arquius takes all of Equius' weirdness and throws it in your face, unashamed.
^ Yeah, this. AR was basically a more emotionally immature version of Dirk with crazy computer processing abilities and no physical body. Now he is sharing a mind and body with someone who has the same bizarre interests as him, a completely different set of experiences and fantastic muscles. The result is some weird median: A more immature, extroverted, self-referential Equius; or a snobbier, markedly more eccentric AR.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I laughed as soon as I heard the music. It almost always denotes something hilarious.
The first time that there have been regular updates in a while, and the thread is all but silent. The enthusiastic neophyte is saddened by this development.
