On the other hand, it's your last chance to show off your skills on the world stage and give your supporters at least a goal or two to cheer. I've noticed some good football from teams that know they have no hope.
It probably also depends whether you expected to go through or not. A lot more disheartening to be Spain than some little country for whom getting to the World Cup finals at all is an accomplishment to be savored.
USA hasn't shown all that much of that scoring talent so far in this world cup. Decent play across the field otherwise, but they're not converting enough chances.
Reminds me of England, this being England's repetitive crime in football. Decent buildup, few goals. Too often England relies on one reliable goalscorer (e.g. Lineker, Beckham) to survive, and there's no scoring depth.

england? decent buildup? nah
also beckham was never really a goalscorer... (aside from his free kicks.) our goalscorer during that early 00s 'golden generation' period was Michael "Little Micky" Owen, who for a while was a genuinely terrifyingly brilliant player who won a Ballon d'Or, then his hamstrings exploded and he bullied a builder into committing suicide and it became apparent he was a smug prick and now everyone hates him. he's a rubbish pundit too
my 'brazil will get knocked out by chile' was almost right but then pinilla hit the bar and jara hit the post. chile how could you
my 'holland are not as good as ppl think' was almost right but then they scored two goals in like 4 minutes, rip mexico
france and germany are meeting in the QFs so we will see that tasty match at which hopefully france will win but judging by how my other predictions went they will lead for 90 minutes and then concede 3 goals in one minute and die
USA did qualify from their group. cool. rip usa
i said that belgium and argentina will not get further than the QFs which is now impossible because they are playing each other in a quarter final. well done me. hopefully fifa send them both home for being bad teams because that will be a really bad match to watch unless messi does a thing (hint: he will do a thing and the argies will be in the semis) my 'unexpected team in semi finals' thing could yet come true as colombia and costa rica are in the quarter finals. however since brazil and holland love crushing my dreams, they will both be eliminated probably though i am supporting at least colombia to win because fuck neymar

in the match that actually means something, italy - uruguay, it is also 0-0. Thrilling Stuff In Group D
ffs
i wasn't too impressed with Costa Rica in that one, either
it's horrifying, really
from 9 international matches and 4 months of all football related activity
America are through to the next round, Müller is still a cheating git, and it's bye bye to Portugal and Ghana.
to this game i mean
it was a shame because the commentator had just made an 'incredible hulk' pun you could tell he'd been saving all this time
having said which it's been by no means a boring game to watch
Nigeria have looked the better side so far but France are not to be underestimated
France have been relentless on the attack in the last few minutes
That's it, then. No time for Nigeria to come back from that.
final score France 2, Nigeria 0
You got this.
that's the second time a Belgian player has had a clear shot at the goal and the defence has been nowhere
DeAndre Yedlin has looked very promising so far.
C'mon America, wake up.
De Bruyne just scored. 1-0 to Belgium.
They're lucky Lukaku hesitated.
he's looked dangerous since he came on
fun while it lasted
c'mon
USA USA
Belgium are through
bye bye America
really good game, though

i'd say france has been the only big team who hasnt been unconvincing but nigeria had the better of them for a lot of the last game
colombia has been the most consistent side

and it was a very nice goal, too
dammit France, i expected better
I'm disappointed by the French performance
the German team certainly played the better game today, but I'm not fond of them
they played very well
Tim Howard in particular stood out as possibly the best goalkeeper we've seen in the entire world cup
1-0 to Brazil at half time, but you couldn't call it one-sided
it's been an exciting game so far, if at times a bit scrappy for my liking
This is really not my day.
2-1
