That is a good premise. I will give him that. But the writing... kind of takes everything I like in strongly descriptive fiction and cranks it to painful degrees. A little self-indulgence is good for the blood, but too much is like chugging brandy.
So I am conflicted: YouTube recommended me an album by The Rondos, who I was unfamiliar with, and I quite liked their sound, but doing some research, they were apparently Maoists or something and even Crass and their colleagues The Ex (with whom they shared a member or two at different points) thought that they were a bit nuts. So I am torn.
I usually have this issue with right-wing people like Burzum or early Ted Nugent-related projects but at least those guys weren't overt about that shit in their music.
honestly i have no opinion on drake besides my sister's zero energy rendition of Started From The Bottom is hilarious and also her hot take on the meek mill beef was great
His persona is really kind of detestable. I mean, he has a handful of nifty songs and genuinely good lyrics in his back catalogue, insofar as I have heard, but the whole character Drake portrays so misses the mark that it becomes vaguely offensive when you about it too long. It's like that superficially nice friend who is secretly trying to get in your pants and that is grotty as hell.
That, and that awful thing he did with that chick who turned him down once. I mean, even being charitable here and assuming the guy honestly thought nothing would come of it and nobody would actually give her shit for it... how stupid are you? Failing that, just how much of an asshole are you?
Also, as unbelievably curmudgeonly as Albini's ranting about club culture coopting electronic music is, there are two good things: Firstly, that he straight up admitted "I am not the right person to ask here;" and that Powell used it as a freaking billboard ad.
He's surely listened to a lot of contemporary electronic music in his time, and I'm not surprised that he thought "bah this one song won't change my mind".

He allowed the use of the sample despite disliking what it was being used for.
There are a lot of cranks who share his viewpoints who would've simply said "no" to someone like Powell.
I think that's the key thing to understand about Steve Albini, but summarising what that thing is, is difficult.
I mean, Powell's sound is p much no wave meets DAF

"looks like a smug douchebag" is kind of an understatement
but yes SFX Entertainment is the company behind pretty much every big EDM festival
I thought that was the case. What happens when they bite it?
