  • well, I upvoted it for you.

Good luck, Greenlight is a hellish system designed to block entry, not allow it.

They're "realistic" in the sense that dragons are chthonic, primordial beings tied strongly into the earth's processes.

"cthonic, primordial beings tied strongly into the earth's processes" is still not very realistic...

Or is it the common theme of more mystical supernatural beings beating older, more primeval things? Like Odin killing Ymir?
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
The fae can hardly be counted as "younger".
  • They're old by our standards, but young by the standards of chthonic deities.

Glad you're enjoying it! Definitely going up there as one of my favorite mobile games.

Well, yeah. Either way the game focuses about as equally on her as it does Joel and you do indeed play as her for the game's final stretch, so honestly it doesn't really make sense for the guy to complain about it.
  • would you have any others to recommend?
  • Like, I totally understand the problem of not enough games with female protagonists.

But that's a problem of trends, not individuals.
  • would you have any others to recommend?

I dunno about Tre, but I've got a bunch of recommendations :P

I support Counterclock's idea that there should be a girl version of Link sometime.

Hm. If you don't mind suppressing the urges to throw your phone in fits of rage, Oscura and Gear Jack are pretty good platformers. I don't like them nearly as much though, mostly due to their harder control schemes.

I haven't delved too much into Android games though. Generally the selection hasn't jumped out at me beyond the obvious games like Subway Surfers, Temple Run, et al. but I'm sure you'd be able to find some gems if you dig deep enough.
  • I'd honestly prefer a more active version of Zelda to a female version of Link.

Linke, the Heroine of Time, goes on a quest to save Prince Zeldo. I like it.
  • It just seems a little unnecessary. I don't see any way to do that without making it incredibly obvious that they're trying to make a point. I don't think there'd be a way to make it seem natural.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
Sure there is! :D They sill have bulges, but just in opposite locations.
  • That's not what I mean.
  • A role reversal would be fine, but I just don't really see the point in switching the genders.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
A "why not" sort of thing.
  • That's my problem with it, really. There needs to be a point to changing it.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
Just as much as there needs to be a point that the video game protagonists are male. ;)
  • That's not what I mean either. There needs to be a point to changing something about an established character.
  • If the point is too overt it will seem gimmicky. Like "oooh look we have CHANGED LINK'S GENDER LOOK AT US WHOOOO"
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
I think Link's genitals are not a big deal at all in any way. u_u He has no personality and never says anything anyway; he is just your little avatar for running around with.
  • I wouldn't say he's devoid of personality. You can catch glimpses of it in a lot of the 3D games.
  • Link has no personality that depends on his gender (which is a silly idea anyway) and it's been long established that there's more than one Link.

Honestly it's the ideal character to gender-flip without a specific reason.

  • I'd say in a few of the games gender informs his personality to an extent.
  • Smee, Maiman, Doktar, Pavelier, Button-Lee, Juan Ovyu
If Link is sort of a blank canvas for the player, why not make like in Pokemon and let the player choose to play as male or female without changing anything else in the game?
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
I always thought he felt androgynous so I think a gender-flip would hardly do very much. Maybe fish princesses would hit on him a little bit less. :p

^^Because Link isn't entirely a blank slate. He does have a personality, to an extent.
  • The only games in the series where Link was devoid of personality were the first, the second, ALttP, and the Oracle games. In every other game in the series his personality is in some way informed by his gender.

and what about his personality tells you "this is a man and this character would not make sense as a woman"?

It's really something you have to play the games to understand.

Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
Personally, I can't help but wonder why we can't have a game where Link and Zelda both have an adventure, and you have the option of choosing either one of them. They could have different powers and items, and thus different ways of solving the same puzzles.

Maybe it's too ambitious to be realistic, but whatever.

    that sounds a lot like a non-answer.

In Spirit Tracks Zelda is the game's "helper", and she travels with Link as a ghost for most of the game. She can be used in puzzles to posses statues and things like that

I'm well aware of that, but what I had in mind was Zelda taking a more active role in the adventure. Outside of the Spirit Tower or whatever it's called, she really doesn't do that much until she gets her body back.
  • it could be a co-op focused game.

tbqh I doubt Nintendo's willing to break formula that drastically though.

Hence my "too ambitious to be realistic" comment. :(

I'm not trying to dodge your questions or anything, but it's difficult to explain. For one thing, his relationship with Zelda in most of the games sort of requires him to be male. His personality in general seems to be masculine. Stuff like that. Like I said, though, it's really something you have to play the games to understand.

They've said they're planning on making Zelda playable in some way in the next game.

    So there's that.
