The Republican Party was a very interesting animal during that period. On the one hand, you had William F. Buckley and his ilk arguing that the Civil Rights Acts should be rewritten to exempt private businesses; on the other, you had Richard Nixon campaigning for universal healthcare. It was very much a classical liberal institution, albeit one with classically conservative leanings, while the Democratic Party was a bit of a mixed bag of various populist factions ranging from ardent social democrats to raving reactionaries.

Honestly, I'd rather have the old Republicans in than the new Democrats in, let alone the new Republicans, who are ghastly on almost every level.

I'd say that person should have held on to that one for a year or two, but everyone will have forgot the loopy signature by then because apparently political cartoons have to be topical as well as horrible.

My rifle detail team for military funerals and the such did such as excellent job that we were chosen to provide the 21-shot salute for the Reagan Memorial that year at the monument. There was thousands of people there and while we provided the 3-volley salute, two WWII fighter aircraft flew over. Then we got a tour of Air Force One and later members from my team presented Nancy Reagan (who was on hand) with a medal for President Reagan's and her positive contributions to the US Marine Corps.

It was quite an honor.

I'll give credit where credit is due. From what I've heard from native Alaskans, Palin was a decent (if very conservative) governor, and I don't think that she's actually stupid. I also have a great deal of respect for Lisa Murkowski and Olympia Snowe, even if I don't often agree with their views. As for Thatcher, her economic policies were abhorrent and her pandering to racists and authoritarian scum grotesque, but I will say that her fortitude in the face of sexist opposition within her own party and without was pretty impressive.

Also, you're painting modern feminism with a very broad and insulting brush, and I'm not even going to get started on your conflation of modern American social liberalism with actual socialism—speaking as an actual socialist, by the way—but...
