Also, the old tags page is still available if you type "tumblr.com/tagged/<insert tag here>", if you're not a fan of the new search layout.
I would like it more if it didn't fill the whole darned window and wasn't laid out to be horizontally viewed. It's more sensory overload than I'd like to have (my blog, by comparison, is pretty much just enough).
Man, almost every single note on a post about MTG angels possibly being filled with helium was an Archer reference. I feel kinda bad for accidentally jumping on that dogpile.
There's also this thing where something can be labeled as Feminist Progressive Masterpiece (or whatever term Mo came up with) by just not being as terrible as the others in their genre.
Pacific Rim got that treatment because it had Transformer's giant robots without, well, the frat boy aura that surrounds Michael Bay like a turbulent cyclone. Sure, it still had a largely eurocentric cast for a movie about the world working together to fight monsters, but at least it's not outright racist like Transformers is.
I don't know about Beyonce, but I do know that she's implicitly being compared to the likes of Miley Cyrus and Lorde, and anybody would look good compared to that.
(if you're wondering why Lorde's on this list, she made a parody video of Blurred Lines that objectified black woman and was sex-negative. And you know how Tumblr hates people who be sex-negative. Like meeeeeeee)
That quote is indeed someone talking about Beyonce's new album.
I like Beyonce' and everything but I sincerely doubt that her album is about what that post makes it out to be about.
Knowing her it's probably mostly....well, love songs and other typical pop R&B fare.
There's nothing wrong with that and the album's probably at least good, Beyonce's a very good singer and has a lot of very competent producers at her beck and call, not to mention many good possible collaborators (including Frank Ocean), but none of this makes her some kind of agent of sweeping social change, nor some idol to be worshipped (indeed, that kind of thing is both objectifying and rather creepy).
I could be wrong and her album could be intensely political, but I am extrapolating what I know about prior releases she has put out.
Actual revolutionary/highly progressive feminist works of high quality in the mainstream are rare, to say the least, and that is certainly a bad thing; and it is worth applauding what certain works do right where others consistently do them wrong. But why not promote more under-the-radar stuff that actually does have legitimately progressive feminist tendencies?
Say, St. Vincent's last album. I think that it was her weakest LP, but it's still pretty damn good and has a very subversive, very distinctly feminist bent. But again:

Because no one knows who St. Vincent is, but everyone knows who Beyonce' is, and she is thus an easier target for this kind of thing.
Which is my main point, most of these people don't care about the actual music at all. (which is not to say St. Vincent is better or worse than Beyonce', I don't know who that is).

Which is why they suck.
Also, St. Vincent played Letterman. People know that she exists.
date a girl who reads. date a girl who reads every book she gets her hands on. she cannot look away from the books. every book. ever. date a girl who reads so much she goes blind. you will spend your life bandaging her paper cuts and massaging her eyes but you have dated the ~perfect~ person so that sort of success is relative i guess.

That's Lily Allen.
Lorde's on Tumblr's shit list because she said this at one point:
"Around the middle of last year I started listening to a lot of rap, like Nicki Minaj and Drake, as well as pop singers like Lana Del Rey. They all sing about such opulence, stuff that just didn't relate to me—or anyone that I knew."
Because this is Tumblr, people got the idea that she was racist because of this comment, which I can't really make sense of because A) she had a completely different lifestyle from Nicki, Drake and Lana until very recently, and B) she's honestly kind of right -- the music's great, but at the same time you can't relate to it if you're just a middle-class teen in the suburbs.
Also, I know it's somewhat beside the point, but she's dating an Asian guy. Something tells me that kind of might be a good way to clue people into one's feelings about other races, but maybe not.
Until Lorde actually says something that gives me a reason to dislike her as a person, I'm not joining the hate train. And her music's boss, so there's that. -folds arms-
and where'd this "woe is me, I am sex-negative and therefore oppressed". Society itself is sex-negative, (often in very bad ways) you're not hurting for supporters if that's the path you've chosen.
Oppressed? No, no, I didn't mean that.
-looks back at comments- Oh, I guess I did mean that. Sorry about that. I meant to not mean that there.
I just wanted to get into a discussion so I'd have the opportunity to test my opinions and all.

eh, it's totally possible to have positive opinion towards Asians but negative opinions towards blacks. probably even common in certain intellectual circles. I'm not sure I actually know who Lorde is in the first place though so I can't say anything about that :V

she made that "Royals" song that you have probably heard on the radio at some point

because if there's one thing extreme SJWs love, it's fetishizing Beyonce and putting her story over her music.
Beyonce' is merely one of many people who receive this treatment, but she's one of the ones who gets it most often.
(leaving the question of whether or not her music is any good entirely to the side, of course)
