the thing that struck me about the first few episodes of Lain was that the opening theme has really strong 10,000 Maniacs/Shawn Colvin 90's Mom Alt/Folk vibes which really wasn't what i was expecting
I don't remember the Lain OP off the top of my head but I remember it sounded like it had the same general feel as, say, .hack//SIGN (the OP or the show itself). Like, kinda weird and mystical/"legend"-like, rather than the normally melodic stuff.

uh, are you sure? it was a rock song.
Oh.
I think I'm probably confusing Lain with Ghost in the Shell.
first scene: kids all sit down to class, exposition happens, then a floating dude appears outside the window and does a magicy thing. There's an explosion and our protag wakes up to the whole room full of debris and gore like quentin tarantino just walked through, and the floating dude is holding the head of the girl he was chatting with
thoughts so far: it's a bit too over the top, the theme song is unbelievably corny, and Shiro's "im sweet and innocent and naive but almost certainly 100% fucking deadly" is getting a wee bit old and im only on episode 2 hopefully she gets to kick some ass soon
How to get me to watch an anime: show me a cute character with white hair that could kill me with his/her bare hands, bonus points for gender ambiguity or gleeful homicidalness
The Toonami revival did get off to a very rough start in retrospect, didn't it?
I'm glad that it's recovered now, though.
(I can't get mad at them for airing entry-tier stuff like some people do since a teenager-oriented block is obviously going to air that sort of stuff.)
I found it decidedly better on second watch. The ending felt better foreshadowed and paced, and I was able to appreciate the art and animation even more this time around. Very solid show, very enjoyable.

I do that sometimes.
no wait sign's kajiura isn't it. blah
But considering that Yoko Kanno did something nonstandard for Cowboy Bebop's OP, I wouldn't be surprised.
That said, Cowboy Bebop's OP is literally the only data point I have for Yoko Kanno's work, since I'm not familiar with any of the her other work.
anyone have any idea of how good/bad it is?
that's a way to start a show for sure
but im still kinda liking it
* there's what appears to be some promising looking intrigue boiling beneath the surface
* really nice aesthetic choices
* privatized prisons are evil so +1 for moral alignment
* Shiro is a cutie >.>
i dont mind a bit of that but when taken to that degree she doesnt feel real
I have to use a canned response.
What.
and that is slightly annoying me since i may want to watch one or more of those shows later
8-9/10 i think
once upon a time there was an old and lonely tree
It really is. Miko, why you give me sads?
EDIT: Wait, I confused Tach and Miko's avatars and now I must redirect my ire! Darnitall! Thus it is doubly Tachyon's fault!
