    that's a weird name for a cat

You see, Klino's cat is actually planning to become a Culture ship.

You know, I've read a healthy number of the later Culture books, but still have yet to read the first few, which is odd for a number of reasons.

TIL Arthur C. Clarke was gay

I didn't know this either, for the record.
  • Toolsie also apparently can't do anything without making it look like a pathetic attempt at flirting.

Playing with my hair? I do it anyway, but it looks like flirting.

Taking a drink of Diet Coke? Looks like flirting.

Struggling to put my coat on? Flirting.
  • OH LORD HE PLAYS THE GUITAR HELP ME PLS

  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
That is OK. You still got to chat up a cute boy. :3
  • I didn't even talk to him. I was just busy burying my face in my hoodie to avoid showing off my bright red face.
  • I saw him with his girlfriend in the station after I got off the train. I was busy sorting my bag out and he walked past holding her hand.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Oh, OK! At least you got a look, though.

I'm not sure our older lab understands pig ears. He split it open and is just chewing on the inside.
  • My lab did something similar with a rabbit's kidneys. He got given them when dad was preparing a rabbit stew, and he proceeded to chew them up and spit them out onto the living room carpet.

We had the good fortune of getting a time when most of us were available, which is not easy to do

"We are forced to conclude that our scientists are incapable of any but the emptiest platitudes when they stray from their specialities. It makes one think back on the collection of mediocrities accumulated by Einstein when he spoke of God, the state, peace, and the meaning of life. It is clear that Einstein, extraordinary mathematical genius that he was, was no Pascal; he knew nothing of political or human reality, or, in fact, anything at all outside his mathematical research. The banality of Einstein's remarks in matters outside his speciality is as astonishing as his genius within it... Even J. Robert Oppenheimer, who seems receptive to a general culture, is not outside this judgement. His political and social declarations, for example, scarcely go beyond the level of those of the man in the street. And the opinions of the scientists quoted by L'Express are not even on the level of Einstein or Oppenheimer...Particularly disquieting is the gap between the enormous power they wield and their critical ability, which must be estimated as null."

    who actually said that
  • "people who are extraordinary in one area are oftentimes ordinary in others" is itself a banal observation that scarcely goes beyond the level of the man in the street.
  • and yet people still think that Neil deGrasse Tyson is a wise political commentator
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Neil deGrasse Tyson is... fine? Seems like an all right guy?
  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.
he's had some pretty  bad takes on twitter but who hasn't?
  • considering the actual views of those two men, that quote kinda reads like entitled rightist whining
  • kill living beings
legit have a hard time understanding the idea of even most politicians not sounding like Some Guy From The Street

You'd think but people tend to use "X is a smart person" in lieu of "X has credentials in the area they were talking about" more and more these days

    A fair observation.
