  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
People are apparently pushing for second referendum now.

I admit, while I'm extremely unhappy with the results of the first one, the idea of having a second one kinda bothers me.

Democracy isn't supposed to be a system where you can just try over and over until you like the outcome...
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Sunn Wolf made a really good series of tweets about how the fact that there was a referendum at all says some really bad things about the UK and how it operates. I guess I could link them? I dunno...

It's not even fucking noon and people are already doing the "leftists are cheering on the Brexit" routine

A second Scotland referendum, not a second EU referendum.

Well, I guess there's some calling for a second EU, but Scotland is the big thing now.

And the Labour Party has a vote of no-confidence tabled against Corbyn, because why the fuck not I guess

Labour really are the worst party. They're like Conservative Lite at this point, and when somebody wants to bring them back to first principles, they hamstring the poor bastard and then try to fire him for not being able to get anything done. Let them languish.

i can't get behind 'let Labour languish' for the same reasons you guys can't be like 'eh, Clinton sucks, let her lose the election, not our problem'

England is terrible, don't ever come here, it's not worth it
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I really hope the vote to oust him fails. England needs a real mainstream party of the Left, and leaving that up to, like, the Greens would be a bit much.

Although at this point Corbyn might as well jump ship to them and take all of his unregistered support with him...
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
The worst thing about all this is that a not-particularly-small group of Leave voters apparently did it out of spite and didn't actually expect it to go through.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
The Greens will never be a viable mainstream party of the left, not in the foreseeable future and probably not while we have a FPTP voting system based on single seat constituencies

if Corbyn is ousted or jumps ship we're screwed

Can we elect the Unseelie court to government, is that a thing we can do?

"Labour voters feeling they had not got a clear message and did not know where the Labour Party stood"

THEY WERE NOT VERY SUBTLE ABOUT IT.

Oh, right, your terrible system is only marginally less terrible than our terrible system. But by the same token, you actually have a Green in national office, so you're one better than us already.

No, silly! That's the Republican primaries.

I'm still confused by the Isle of Wight. Like, I'm not convinced anyone there has actually seen someone darker than a snowman.

Oh, that makes more sense. The tweets I saw were referring to a second EU referendum.

In my experience, a good portion of bigots don't even interact with the people they're prejudiced against.

I assure you that no small number of Trump supporters have never seen a Mexican in their entire lives.

Oh, there's definitely a portion of Trump supporters that believe that too.

Not to mention there's an overlap between the two, because racists are experts at cognitive dissonance.

There are dark-skinned immigrants in Finland. Not a lot of them, but they exist. Yet I rarely hear about Finnish racism because... apparently they're actually pretty OK with immigrants? I just find it kind of curious. Apparently Iceland is pretty inviting to refugees from Africa and the Middle East, too, but their immigration policies toward Europeans and Americans are extremely strict.

Cognitive dissonance and an inbred nostalgia for the era of open slave labour.

One of my favorite realizations as a socially inept autistic person: You can almost ALWAYS say "have a nice day" and it can't go wrong!
