I remember last year, me and my flat mate put so much washing into a washing machine that was caused it to move. It was so heavy that both of us combined couldn't move it back to where it was originally.

... It's like the greater entertainment industry is actually trying to be inclusive to these audiences, but doing it in the literal most wrong ways possible.
The sad part is that both Weaver and Rodriguez are involved; I'd readily consider myself a fan of both, but the concept of the film in conjunction with their presences just made my heart sink.
Like, it's entirely possible to make an action thriller with a trans lead who identifies that way because they want to and not because of any external influence, isn't it?
Guess that'd be too hard to imagine for big Hollywood, and even if it did happen, the lead would probably be a cis actor playing the part (a phenomenon that I can understand the reasoning behind but still rubs me the wrong way anyway because it implies that the character's gender is just an act).
Going further, the concept itself is horrifying in its implications; it turns what should be a decision made with self-confidence into a fate to be forced upon someone, a transgression worthy of taking revenge for. It's not hard to make a parallel between it and sexual assault, except the movie makes it an even more permanent event than that and ugh this is terrible just no
I think I'm done ranting about this. Sorry, y'all.

As one trans person I follow on Twitter said, it's important to realize that the media is currently not so much supportive of trans people as it is fascinated by them.

mostly i was like "gee, this is gonna be a goofy film"
Speaking as someone who spent most of her adolescenthood reading shitty gender bender fiction websites...yeah, the "forcibly turned into a woman by an evil surgeon" thing is baaaasically straight-up fetish fiction material.

It's kind of embarrassing but I read a lot of transgender fetish fiction when I was in high school because going to a fantasy world where people can magically transform into women for the rest of their lives made me feel better about not being a woman myself

The kind you find in a secondhand store!
This is so patently absurd that I can't help but laugh.

My dinner today is mashed potato, Yorkshire puddings and assorted frozen vegetables
