my parents were kind of worried about Windows 10, i said i didn't think it was anything to worry about but i see posts like that fairly often
(my parents are even worse with computers than i am, and tend to be very credulous of any story about any software being in some way bad)
the gist of it is that Win 10 has targeted advertisting built into the OS.
The actual amount of it you'll see is probably minimal. However, the fact that it's happening at all is understandably somewhere between unnerving and simply annoying for some people. It's a reason (of many) that I haven't bothered to upgrade.
...I hope you enjoy your laptop being part of 12 botnets
siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh
you've got a point but it's just, you know
sigh.
actually can I get a word from like someone who's good with computers as to how common this actually is
I always hear horror stories about it but I rarely notice my laptop running particularly poorly.
It is running a little warm right now but I have two (busy) browsers, foobar2000, the Task Manager, OneNote, the volume mixer, HexChat, Skype, Windows File Explorer, Paint, Windows Photo Viewer, and FL Studio all open.

oh, ugh
that's a gross thing, i thought it would just be for performance data and stuff, not something like that

I think you only actually see it in the Windows Store, which very few people use.

The targeted advertising is easy enough to turn off, but it's one of those things that people flipped out about.
Also people say Windows 10 contains a "keylogger"...when the reality is that it sends certain keystrokes to Bing to offer search suggestions in the Start menu, just like every web browser in the past 10 years. And again, that can be turned off.

it's actually quite difficult to turn off from what I've heard, unless you knew about it beforehand and took some steps while upgrading.

<Buttercupistiny> he stays awake as long as he can, crashes into a nap, cannot fall asleep, does not take melatonin and then gets frustrated when he cannot sleep
<Juan> sounds like quite the image of health, Buttercupistiny
<CentralAvenue> So like a month ago I randomly became obsessed with The Powerpuff Girls and now this obsession WON'T GO AWAY
<Buttercupistiny> I will beat him with plushies until he learns the value of the powerpuff girls
<Buttercupistiny> that is not what I meant to write
<Rig> No, I imagine not.
<Buttercupistiny> the value of taking his melatonin
<CentralAvenue> So once again, the poni is asleep, thanks to THE POWERPUFF GIRLS
<CentralAvenue> ...Actually with you being "Buttercup" that makes too much sense

performance effects of being virused ( which you are, without updates) are small but existent, but probably increase over timeas you get more and more infected.
just keep in mind, being infected and not knowing it is what the infectors want.
If I was an Alternian troll... I don't mean me as Vriska, I mean me as a troll version of Ozbourne, where do you think I would fall on the hemospectrum?
We learned to use it in my computer programming class, as it can be used both Client-side and Server-side, and is a basis for a lot of simple programming languages. I found it just a tiny bit more intuitive than HTML, and a lot more intuitive than JAVA.

Yeah, I would say install anything that's "Important" or "Recommended" but you can skip "Optional"
If there's an update for a Visual Studio Runtime it's probably because you've installed something that relies on that runtime to function

That's the first the first time i've heard it, so i didn't take in all the lyrics, but i liked the sound.
