Pet peeves: when people act helpless faced with a very clear, concise error message.
We've all had conversations like this:
"Can you help me with my camera?"
"Sure, what's wrong?"
"It says 'SD CARD IS WRITE-PROTECTED'."
"Ok, so you checked whether the SD card is write-protected?"

It's like there's a subcategory of people who know how to use computers and electronics but the moment something doesn't work perfectly on the first try they become completely helpless

well what if you don't know what an SD card is, or what write-protection is
I think it's reasonable to expect most people to draw the connection between the card you put in the camera (which usually even has an "SD" logo on it) and the message on the screen.
I'll give you the write protection thing, though. It's far too easy to accidentally flip that little switch when you're handling the card, especially if you don't know what it does.

Out of curiosity I tried it with the camera I have on hand and the only error message it gives is this:
! PROTECTED CARD
...so yeah, I suppose I can't blame anyone for being confused by that when they word it so opaquely.
If it were me I'd have it show you a picture of the card and the switch you need to switch.

Incidentally my parents got cold-called by a "Microsoft" tech support scammer this afternoon
Thankfully my dad is smart enough to know to hang up on them
I never thought that the situation would be such that I feel a kind of exasperated fondness for EY, and disgust and loathing for Scott Alexander, but that's how it's turned out.
Oh, maybe you're eating a breed of apple called an Asian Pear. It's genetically a kind of apple, but its texture and taste are much more like a pear. It's shaped like an apple and colored like a pear. They, as far as I know, tend to grow best in Alkaline soils (which Utah and its neighboring states have, while many eastern states have Acidic soils).
On the plus side to Acidic soils, I'm pretty sure you can only grow Pomegranates in acidic soils.
In that example, most everything was the same or similar except ph, but changing things like the amount of light or the water or the nutrients might change the color , too , I don't know. Wouldn't surprise me, given the variety that hydrangeas show.
Also, breeding 's probably involved; but still, a plant that shows its PH is pretty dang cool. No wonder its a favorite of gardeners and middle-school science teachers.
There's, like, sixty different species of Hydrangea. I'm pretty sure there's more than one species in that picture.

I changed my Tumblr username to "toddlerkin" last night while I was loopy as fuck then totally forgot about it until I went to look at my dashboard just now.
Wouldn't mind not seeing Moribund Cinematic Universe movies
Odie, nobody is going to judge you for not partaking in something as trivial as watching a movie series. I say this with the utmost confidence.
If I've learned anything from Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey, it's this: just because something is popular doesn't mean you have to subject yourself to it.

No, I mean it's fun hanging out with friends.
Please do not turn this into "you are a horrible awful person for going to see movies you don't enjoy because you enjoy spending time with people" I got enough of that already.

i can relate
the fun of hanging out with friends easily outweighs the low enjoyment of the movie
